JOY JOY JOY

While designing my “YOU” card a few days ago, I made a fun discovery. If you turn “YOU” over and snip off half of the “U,” it spells “JOY.” So, that’s exactly what I did when making today’s card. I placed the die, “YOU,” from the Celebrate You die set, on the back side of a Gold Foil sheet, and ran it through the Big Shot. You’ll end up with the cut edge of the letters showing, rather than the smooth, but I like the way it looks in this case.

I was happy with my vertical “YOU,” so decided to repeat that design with “JOY.” Here’s my “YOU” card, if YOU missed it.

The vertical “JOY,” was also perfect for this week’s CAS(E) this sketch challenge.

Once I had my three “JOYs” die cut and snipped, I glued them to a strip of Whisper White cardstock, layered on Gold Foil. I glued this strip on the left side of my Thick Whisper White card base, and waited for inspiration to come.

Wanting to keep it simple, I found the die cuts to use in the Pretty Pines die set. I cut two pine boughs from Thick Whisper White cardstock, and placed them to mimic the banner shape in the sketch. To tie it together, I added a die cut of berries and a Gold Foil bow.

The  finishing touch was three white stars from the Metallics Sequin Assortment.

Wishing you JOY JOY JOY, down in your heart!

Merry Christmas in Nontraditional Colors

Today’s project is a clean and simple Christmas card in nontraditional colors.

By Su Mohr for LIM381 and tgifc180; Click READ to go to my blog for details! Featuring: Merry Christmas to All, Star of Light, Swirls & Curls, Stampin' Up; #Christmascards #nontraditionalcolors #handmadecards #staroflight #swirlsandcurls #stampinup #tgifc180 #lim381

Merry Christmas Swirls

My inspiration for this card was the combination of two challenges:

The TGIF challenge required these three, bright colors and black. I’m into Christmas card making mode, so that’s what the theme would be.

The layout was determined by Rebecca’s clean and simple card at Less Is More. I like using a large amount of white with bright colors, so this design was a good solution for me.

I first embossed the right side of my Thick Whisper White card base with the Swirls & Curls embossing folder. Then, I cut “Merry” from Coastal Cabana cardstock with a die from the Merry Christmas die set. I layered “Merry” for thickness.

Next, I stamped “Christmas” from the Merry Christmas to All stamp set in Black ink, and cut it with the label die from the Merry Christmas die set. I HAD to pop it up on top of the Swirls & Curls!

Lastly, the stars from the Star of Light stamp set were stamped in Mango Melody and Melon Mambo. Say those names three times fast! The stars have a die in the Starlight die set to cut them out perfectly. I placed them on mini-dimensionals, and my nontraditional  Christmas card was complete.

I rarely make a card without a layer on my base card, but the Thick Whisper White cardstock seems to work well on its own. I hope you were inspired by today’s project. Keep scrolling to see my Product List.

Have a great day!

Cardinal Brings Christmas Cheer

Today’s project has a little red cardinal bringing someone Christmas cheer.

Cardinal Brings Cheer

This little bird is from the Painted Glass bundle, and I turned her into a cardinal with Stampin’ Blends. I stamped her in Black ink, colored in with Light and Dark Cherry Cobbler for feathers, and a bronze beak. She was easy to cut with her die that’s in the bundle.

Also in the bundle is the die I used for the window, which is cut from Crumb Cake cardstock. TIP: Use teeny tiny spots of Tombow Liquid Glue for adhering.

The cardinal wanted to bring cheer to someone in the house, and found just the right words in the Merry Christmas to All bundle. “Merry” is cut with a die from Cherry Cobbler cardstock, and “Christmas” is stamped in Cherry Cobbler ink. A label die from the same bundle cut a perfect window sill for the cardinal to perch.

The Whisper White house was made with the Simple Stripes embossing folder, which I adhered to a Thick Whisper White card base. There’s a “stripes” theme going on over at Festive Friday, so I’m joining in this week’s challenge.

The two sprigs of Garden Green pine were cut with a die from the Night Owl die set. I added some Linen Thread, decorated the envelope flap, and called it complete.

My supply list is below, but I see I forgot two items; the Cherry Cobbler ink pad, and the Bronze Stampin’ Blend. Oh, and the medium envelope and Under the Mistletoe DSP.

Have a wonderful day!

Unisex “YOU” Birthday Card

Today’s project is a very “clean and simple” design, and you wouldn’t believe me if I told you how long it took me to come up with it. I think I start panicking when my little space of 5 1/2″ X 4 1/4″ is supposed to have lots of blank space. But, I like how this birthday card turned out, with its modern edge. I’m calling it a unisex card, because it could be for a man or woman, don’t you think?

“YOU” birthday card

The challenge at Freshly Made Sketches required a “clean and simple” design, and was my inspiration for the vertically placed “you.”

I cut the “YOU” with a die from the Celebrate You die set; two in each color: Lemon Lime Twist, Real Red and Gorgeous Grape. They were glued together to add a bit of dimension.

I decided on a Basic Black card base with a layer of Whisper White cardstock, embossed by the Subtle Textured embossing folder. The embossing is so “subtle,” I think it passes as blank.

The panel on the right is Whisper White cardstock, bordered with Basic Black cardstock. Before gluing everything together I stamped the sentiment in Black ink. “Today we celebrate wonderful brilliant fabulous you!” is from the Picture Perfect Birthday stamp set.

I hope I’ve inspired you with my clean and simple, unisex birthday card. My Product list is short on this one, which you can see by scrolling down.

Thanks for shopping with me! Wishing YOU a clean and simple day!

Let It Snow Christmas Card

“Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.” Are you singing with me?

By Su Mohr for tgifc179 and GDP158; Click READ to go to my blog for details! Featuring: Seasonal Layers dies, Sparkle Glimmer Paper, Labeler Alphabet stamp set, Brusho Crystal Colour, Softly Falling embossing; #tgifc179 #gdp158 #christmascards #handmadecards #snow #snowflakes #letitsnow

Let It Snow

This “Let It Snow” Christmas card came together because of two challenges. TGIF has a technique challenge this week, where we were to create our own background.

I began by spritzing a piece of Shimmery White cardstock with water, and sprinkling it with blue Brusho Crystal Colour. I spritzed again to get it nice and wet to let the color run on the paper. After drying, which I assisted with my Heat Tool, I pressed it flat beneath heavy books.

Once my sky was flat, the shape was determined by the sketch at this week’s Global Design Project.

I chose Thick Whisper White for the card base, layered with Whisper White cardstocked, embossed by the Softly Falling embossing folder.

The hearts in the sketch became snowflakes from the Seasonal Layers die set. I used three of the dies for cutting the snowflakes from Shimmery White cardstock. Can you see them glistening?

I didn’t have the words “let it snow” in a stamp set, so I relied on my handy, dandy Labeler Alphabet stamp set. The letters are stamped in Balmy Blue ink, and snipped from Whisper White cardstock. If you haven’t seen my tips for ease of use, here it is:

Tips on Using the Labeler Alphabet While Vacation Continues

Before gluing it all together,  I wound Silver Metallic Thread around the bottom of the sky, and tied a knot.

I hope you enjoyed seeing some snowflakes today. It’s cloudy in San Diego, and we’re expecting rain tonight! No snow in the forecast though.

Merry Christmas Sequins & Glimmer

For today’s project, I’m playing along with Paper Player’s Tic Tac Toe challenge. I thought it would be a good opportunity to use my favorite sequins, the Iridescent Assortment. They are beautiful, shiny, pastel colors in varying sizes.

By Su Mohr for PP412; Click READ to go to my blog for details! Featuring: Merry Christmas To All, Merry Christmas dies, Dazzling Glimmer Paper, Woodland embossing, Iridescent Sequins, Frosted Floral DSP; #christmascards #handmadecards #stampinup #merrychristmastoall, #woodlandembossing #frostedfloral #pp412

Merry Christmas Glimmer

I chose the right, row, down: green-any embossing-sequins/glitter.

To go with my glittery sequins, I chose a piece of shimmery, Mint Macaron, Frosted Floral Designer Series Paper. I trimmed it to size, and bordered it with Soft Sea Foam cardstock. Then, I cut the word “Christmas ” from the Merry Christmas die set, and glued it at an angle on the DSP. Isn’t it pretty in Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper? You’ll find the word “Christmas” in the Merry Christmas die set.

The two sprigs (duplicated in the DSP) were cut with a Frosted Bouquet die; one in Soft Sea Foam, and the other in Mint Macaron.

The card base is Thick Whisper White cardstock with a layer of regular weight Whisper White, embossed by the Woodland embossing folder.

The word “Merry” is in the Merry Christmas to All stamp set, which I stamped in Mint Macaron ink on Whisper White cardstock. I cut it with a label die in the Merry Christmas die set. The two sets can be ordered in a bundle, which gives you a 10% savings.

Last, but not least, I placed just six beautiful sequins. I know, it looks like more, because they are spilled in the background. They are so pretty, I couldn’t help myself!
