Today’s card was my first Tip & Technique Project as an Artisan; the Sepia Technique. What is Sepia? It’s the reddish brown, monochrome color of photographs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Sepia Technique
I created the look by coloring Translucent Florals leaves and flowers with Pecan Pie Ink on Very Vanilla Cardstock. Translucent Florals are Distinktive stamps, which require less ink for the best image. Move the ink across the pad with the smooth edge of a Clear Block.

After stamping, I used their dies for cutting.

Next, I cut two layers of Very Vanilla Cardstock with the largest and second largest Deckled Rectangles Dies. Then, I stamped the sprigs, stem, and “Happy Birthday,” in Pecan Pie Ink on the smaller layer.
To “age” the layer, I brushed the edges with Pecan Pie Ink and a Sponge Dauber.
Before attaching the die-cut pieces, I glued the layers to a Pecan Pie card base, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″.
The final step was adding three, small, Very Vanilla blossoms, cut with another Translucent Florals die.
I was on a roll with this technique, so come back tomorrow to see a second Sepia design.

Embark on a unique journey around the globe, as the 2024 Artisan Design Team introduce you to their hometown on the Artisan Road Trip. I share my curbside chronicles of San Diego, California here in USA. Having lived here all my life, I give a taste of where I live through the power of papercraft.

San Diego is known for its ideal climate, beautiful beaches, nearby mountains, and deserts. I live in north county, 40 minutes inland from the coast, in a city named Poway. The cards I’m sharing today give you an idea of what you would see on a walk behind my house. I paired each card with a sentiment from the Warm Welcome Stamp Set, expressing friendship, and open arms to guests.

Artisan Design Team Road Trip
I found the beautiful scenes in Meandering Meadows Designer Paper. The circle was cut with an Everyday Details Die.The tiny holes were “begging” for some Linen Thread, and I gave “detail” to the background with additional Everyday Details Dies. “San Diego” was created with the Mini Alphabet Dies, Meandering Meadows DSP, and Foam Adhesive Sheets. I love how you can say anything you want with alphabet dies!

This card shows plein air painting, along the path. The easel is from the Crafting With You Die Set, and the background was cut with a Deckled Rectangles Die. “Life is better when you’re crafting.” Don’t you agree?

This open door gives you a good view of the native, California Poppies. I fussy cut the door from the Warm Welcome Stamp Set, and “paper pieced” inside the frame. The Exposed Brick Embossing Folder gives texture to the background. I put out the “welcome mat” for you!

Thanks for visiting!

I look forward to designing for you each and every month throughout this year and hope you’ll join me. Continue on the Artisan Road Trip to another curbside, in another town and learn a little about where we each live and design from. Enjoy the ride.

This month’s assignment for the 2024 Artisan Design Team of Stampin’ Up! was to create projects using the Lifetime Of Love Bundle. We each have our own style, and there are so many possibilities with these products. I created two cards with the addition of Flight & Airy Designer Paper.

Lifetime Of Love
For my first card, I decided on a dotted background, using the Dots & Spots Die to create a stencil. Then, I used a Blending Brush with Fresh Freesia Ink to color over the stencil, held in place on Basic White Cardstock, 4″ X 5 1/4″. This was glued to a Thick Basic White card base, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″.

Next, a wonderful, Lifetime Of Love Die was used to cut Flight & Airy Designer Paper. Then, I used the same die to cut Thick Basic White Cardstock, and both were glued to the card front.
“Love you” is from the Lifetime Of Love Stamp Set. I stamped it in Memento Black Ink, used a Timeless Arrangements Die for cutting, attached it with Dimensionals, and my first card was complete.

My second card began with a Fresh Freesia card base, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″. This was layered with Basic White Cardstock, 4″ X 5 1/4″, given texture with a Basic 3D Embossing Folder.

Next, I used the round, Lifetime Of Love Die to cut Thick Basic White Cardstock, which I glued to the center of the card front. Before gluing the cut center back in the hole, I stamped it with “forever & always.”
The birds were fussy cut from Flight & Airy Designer Paper, and attached with Dimensionals.
For a little sparkle, I added three, Fresh Freesia, Tinsel Gems.

My January Host Code Gift
