Traveling Birds for the Top Ten

Thanks so much for visiting today. I’m honored, once again, to share a project with you with the theme of travel. I left my “ALOHA” card  in Hawaii with my daughter and her family. This is us, after church, and before brunch at the Hickam Officer’s Club.

If you missed my July card, here it is:

Hawaiian ALOHA Lei Handmade Card

My husband and I had a wonderful time in Hawaii, but it’s always good to return home. Returning home, like homing pigeons, is what was in my head when I made today’s card.

Traveling Birds

I began by using Stampin’ Blends (alcohol markers) to color the wonderful bird from the Serene Garden Bundle. I, first, stamped three birds in Sahara Sand ink on Thick Whisper White cardstock. Homing pigeons are gray, but these birds needed to be pretty, pastel colors.

The Post Script background stamp was perfect for conveying the idea of travel, and flying across the miles. The Post Script is stamped in Sahara Sand ink on Thick Whisper White cardstock, which I layered for thickness before cutting with a Stitched Seasons die.

I backed the Post Script frame with Vellum cardstock, and placed it on a Thick Whisper White card base with Foam Adhesive Strips for dimension. The birds are flying across the card on dimensionals for added 3-D.

Last, but not least, the sentiment. I hunted for a stamp that said, “welcome home,” but didn’t find one in my stash. This lead to getting creative with the Labeler Alphabet stamp set. I used Sahara Sand ink, hand cut the letters, and arranged them to fit the shape of the frame. This stamp set is great for saying exactly what you want to say.

Last March, I posted some tips on making this stamp set easy to use:

Tips on Using the Labeler Alphabet While Vacation Continues

Stripes, Color, Design, Petal Palette Birthday Card

Aloha! I’ve just returned from vacationing in Hawaii. Here’s just one view while eating dinner at the Lanai restaurant, and I’ll be sharing more.

I miss being there already, but I’m excited to get back to my craft room. Challenges are great at giving me a kick-start into card making. I’m playing catch-up, so I’m using three challenges for this first project. They’ll be listed toward the bottom of my post.

Petal Palette post Hawaiian vacation

I began with the colors: Macaron Mint, Powder Pink, Mossy Meadow and Tranquil Tide. I had previously hand-cut flowers from the Share What You Love DSP, so they were easy to grab.

My Powder Pink bird, cut with a Petals & More die, was also ready to use.

And, one more previously die-cut item, the Whisper White Stitched Shapes circle.

I placed these on dimensionals, and my focal point was complete.

TIP: I recently started storing my “extra die-cuts” in the envelope with their coordinating dies. The Stampin’ Up info paper separates them from the dies, so they aren’t damaged. So far, it’s working, and easier to find things than in my “bit box” that was growing out of control.

My card base is Thick Whisper White cardstock, and the background is in three sections. The top section, vertical stripes, was made with a Petal Pair embossing folder.  “Best Wishes” from the Petal Palette stamp set is stamped in Tranquil Tide ink. The bottom section is a Macaron Mint, diagonal stripe, from retired DSP. The top and middle sections are tied together with a flower cut with a die in the Petals & More die set.

Here are the three challenges I used for inspiration. Clicking on the pictures will take you to their pages, where you’ll see the designer’s projects and all of the entries.

Thank you for visiting me today. I think I’m still on Hawaiian time.

Animal Outing Kangaroo Baby Card

Kanga and Baby who? I’ve always been a Winnie-the-Pooh fan, and can’t wait to see the movie that’s coming out. So, this kangaroo is Kanga, but where is Baby Roo?  It seems a koala is peeking out of Kanga’s pouch!

Kangaroo Welcome Baby Card

Yes, it’s Baby Koala on this adorable Designer Series Paper, Animal Expedition. I couldn’t find Baby Roo, but I discovered the Animal Outing Bundle has dies for cutting the animals from the paper. Isn’t that fun?

For this card, I used two dies to cut Kanga and frog-on-a-branch.

I decided to give Baby Koala extra attention by hand cutting him in his pouch and placing him on a dimensional.

For added interest, I used two of the Stitched Seasons Dies to cut Whisper White and Garden Green layers. I adore these shapes!

These were placed on top of a leafy/froggy piece of Animal Expedition DSP, on top of a Crumb Cake Card base.

I stamped “Welcome Little One” in Garden Green ink, and added three pearls for embellishment.

On the inside, I added Whisper White cardstock, cut with a Stitched Seasons die. And, a cute, Lemon Lime Twist bow that’s from the same die set.

Frog-on-a-branch thought his color was good for decorating the envelope also. I agreed.

Thanks so much for hopping, I mean stopping, by. Kanga, Baby Koala, and frog-on-a-branch are much appreciative.

Animal Expedition Eclipse Technique

The Animal Expedition Designer Series Paper is adorable! I thought it would be the perfect background for the “eclipse” technique. I haven’t tired of this technique yet, have you?

Animal Expedition I Love You

I found the words I wanted to use in three different die sets. The “I” is from Large Letters, “love” is from Sunshine Wishes, and “you” is from Celebrate You. I first die cut ” I love you” from the Animal Expedition Designer Series Paper. Then, the letters were given four layers of Thick Whisper White cardstock. This elevates the words without having to use dimensionals.

The card base is Thick Whisper White cardstock, layered with Call me Clover cardstock, and topped with the Animal Expedition Designer Series Paper. I glued everything together, and placed the letters in their holes.

I tied Linen Thread around one end (prior to gluing), and my card was complete. The envelope flap was decorated with a leaf print, also from Animal Expedition DSP.

Thank you for stopping by today. Have a great one!

Diamond Engagement Card

When I saw this week’s CAS(E) this sketch, I had to take it literally.

The die for cutting a diamond is the one die in the Eclectic Layers set I had yet to use, and I needed an engagement card. The Twinkle Twinkle Designer Series Paper provided the perfect background. Do you see the hearts in the constellations?

Diamond Engagement Card

I began by layering the Thick Whisper White card base with Basic Black. This made a nice contrast with the soft Petal Pink color of the Twinkle Twinkle Designer Series Paper. Plus, I wanted to use these two colors for Mary’s challenge, “inspired by color.” Check out those shoes!

It was fun die cutting the diamond from the Silver Glimmer Paper, seeing it sparkle.

Rather than two more diamonds, I die cut two hearts. The larger one (Whisper White) is a favorite from the Sunshine Wishes die set. The smaller one (Petal Promenade DSP) is from a retired Stampin’ Up set.

I stamped, “You’re Engaged,” from the Itty Bitty stamp set. The last detail was the Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon across the front, before gluing everything together.

The sentiment inside is from the Better Together stamp set.

Now, I’m ready with a card for the newly engaged couple. As always, I appreciate you stopping by my blog.  I hope you’ve been inspired.

Country Cat On A Card

Uh Oh! I knew I was in trouble when I saw the theme was Country/Farm Life at this week’s Global Design Project. Cat would insist on being featured.

Cat always wants to play outside, and would love nothing better that to be on a farm in the country. Plus, he has been asking for Bokeh Dots fur, since he saw his friends wearing it. Peer pressure, I guess.

By Su Mohr for GDP147; Click READ to go to my blog for details! Featuring: Cat Punch, Enjoy Life, Bokeh Dots, Stitched Seasons, Sitting Here, Pinewood Planks; #countrycat #catsoncards #stampinup #stitchedseasonsdies #catpunch #bokehdots #enjoylife #gdp147

Bokeh Dots Country Cat

So, you see, he got his way. He is sitting on a Stitched Seasons frame of Crumb Cake cardstock, which I embossed with the Pinewood Planks embossing folder.

I’ll admit that Cat was helpful in contributing to the farmland scene. He found the plant material in the Enjoy Life stamp set, and said I should stamp it in Soft Suede on Vellum cardstock. He said it would be a good place to hide, and look like rows on a field.

I added some earth and sky using the Tranquil Textures Designer Series Paper. This was glued to the Crumb Cake card base, topped with the Vellum, and then the frame.

TIP: The frame is perfect for hiding the glue that can be detected through the vellum.

Cat is really very friendly, and likes to have company. Can you see the sentiment he found? It was in the Sitting Here stamp set.

I’m not sure who will receive this card. It has to be someone who likes cats. Of course, Cat thinks everyone does. Thanks for paying us a visit!
