I continue to love this carry-over set, Winter Woods, my choice for today’s Thanksgiving card. The row of trees has such amazing detail!

Thanksgiving Trees

I stamped the trees in Early Espresso Ink on Whisper White Cardstock, and cut with a Stitched Rectangles Die, approximately 4″ X 2 3/4″. To highlight the trees I added a 1/16″ border of  Early Espresso Cardstock. For the background, I cut Crumb Cake Cardstock, using the largest Stitched Rectangles Die, and embossed it with the Tasteful Textile Embossing Folder. The card base is Early Espresso Cardstock, matching the border of the trees.

It’s hard to see in the photo, but the trees are raised on Dimensionals, making use of the left-over strips along the edge.

The fall leaves add colorful contrast in Real Red, Old Olive, Bumblebee, and Pumpkin Pie. I discovered that cute, little leaf in the Sounds Of The Season Die.

The small “THANKS” is from the Waterfront Stamp Set, stamped in Real Red Ink, and cut with the smallest Stitched So Sweetly Die.

A Christmas Wreath For GDP 262

Today’s design was inspired by this week’s sketch from Global Design Project. I saw a Christmas wreath.

By Su Mohr for #gdp262; Click READ or VISIT to go to my blog for details! Featuring: In Good Taste Designer Paper, Forever Greenery Designer Paper, Wreath Builder Dies, Sounds Of The Season Dies, Itty Bitty Christmas; #christmascards #holidaycards # holiday2020 #wreaths #wreathsoncards #christmaswreaths #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #cardmaking #papercrafting #cardsketches #cardchallenges

Christmas wreath with bells

What do you see? We’d love for you to design a card and post it in our gallery.

I wanted to hang my wreath on a beautiful wood background, so I chose my favorite wood texture from In Good Taste Designer Paper, 4″ X 5 1/4″.  This was layered on Gray Granite Cardstock, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″.

I debated about the circle of leaves, but ended up choosing Shaded Spruce Cardstock and a pattern from Forever Greenery Designer Paper. The circular die used for cutting is from the Wreath Builder Die Set, and I cut one, leafy, circle from each paper. The patterned paper added nice variation to the leaves, don’t you think?

Before gluing the wreath to the wood, I prepared my sentiment,”Blessed Christmas wishes,” from the Itty Bitty Christmas Stamp Set. I stamped it in Crumb Cake Ink on Whisper White Cardstock, and used the smallest Stitched Rectangles Die for cutting. The most difficult part of the card was placing the sentiment among the leaves, while attaching it with Mini-Dimensionals.

That cute bow was also made with a Wreath Builder Die. I experimented with six different colors, and ended up with plain white. LOL! I didn’t want it to upstage those three, adorable bells at the bottom of the wreath. They were made with a Sounds Of The Season Die and Brushed Metallic Paper.

“Thank You For The Birds That Sing”

As I was making today’s card, my family’s meal time prayer came to mind:

Thank you for the world so sweet, thank you for the food we eat, thank you for the birds that sing, thank you, God, for everything.”

You might think the prayer would become meaningless, because of the constant repetition, but it doesn’t. It brings about  a calm and peaceful atmosphere, every time. And, the funny thing is, we have a yard full of chirping birds. So, my family will understand the meaning, and humor, behind this Thanksgiving card.

“…birds that sing…”

The colors are from this week’s Global Design Project. I had everything stamped and cut in all three colors, and decided this was my favorite arrangement.

The card base is Mint Macaron, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″, layered with Whisper White Cardstock, 4″ X 5 1/4″.

Before gluing the white layer to the cards base, I stamped the middle with Mint Macaron Ink, using a stamp from the Textured Essentials Stamp Set. I also gave it texture with the Tasteful Textile Embossing Folder.

Next, I used a Birds & More Die to cut a branch from Cajun Craze Cardstock. The three flowers are from the Wreath Builder Die Set, cut from Pumpkin Pie Cardstock. There are some dots on the branch that made handy spots for gluing the flowers.

I stamped the bird, and his feet, from the Birds & Branches Stamp Set in Pumpkin Pie Ink, and used the Birds & More Dies for cutting. After gluing his feet in place, I positioned him on the branch with a Dimensional. The stamps and dies come in a Bundle for a 10 % savings, which you can see in my Product List below.

“Give thanks” is from the Arrange A Wreath Stamp Set (also in a bundle), stamped in Cajun Craze Ink, and cut with a Stitched So Sweetly Die. I was happy how this die fit the sentiment perfectly!

Evergreen Forest for GDP 260

What a nice surprise, that my card from June, is this week’s “CASE the Designer” at Global Design Project.

Today’s card began with the same Thick Whisper White card base, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″, layered with Whisper White Cardstock, that I embossed with the Subtle Textured Embossing Folder, 4″ X 5 1/4″.

By Su Mohr for #GDP260; Click READ or VISIT to go to my blog for details! Featuring: Square Vellum Doilies, Evergreen Forest embossing, Subtle Textured embossing, Stitched So Sweetly Dies; #christmascards #evergreenforest #spongedaubers #winkofstella ##stitchedsosweetly #holidaycards #quickandeasy #cleanandsimple #trees #treesoncards #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #cardmaking #papercrafting

Christmas Forest

And, I used the same Stitched So Sweetly Die (largest) to cut the rectangle with the scalloped edge.

This time, I ran the scalloped rectangle through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine with the Evergreen Forest Embossing Folder. To add color to the trees, I used Seaside Spray Ink and a Sponge Dauber. A happy accident occurred, because I ended up with multi colored trees. The Sponge Dauber, I thought was clean, retained green from a prior use, so my forest looked beautiful without additional coloring. YAY!

Rather than using sequins, I dotted the trees with Wink Of Stella. This is a fun and easy way to add some sparkle, although, it’s difficult to photograph. You’ll have to take my word for it.

Next, I layered the forest for thickness, and raised it on Dimensionals, making use of some left-over Dimensional edges.

Before attaching my forest, I glued a Square Vellum Doily in the left-hand corner for some extra pizzazz.

The sentiment, “Blessed Christmas Wishes,” is from the Itty Bitty Christmas Stamp Set, stamped in Mint Macaron Ink, and cut with the smallest Stitched Rectangles Die. I placed a tiny piece of a Foam Adhesive Sheet under the end of “wishes” for added stability.

It was fun “casing” myself, and I hope you were inspired. I’d love to see your cards hanging in the Global Design Project gallery. Clicking on my original card design at the top will take you there.

School Days For Global Design Project 259

What do you do when you don’t have a current stamp set to fit the theme of a challenge? You use the Playful Alphabet Dies!

By Su Mohr for #GDP259; Click READ or VISIT to go to my blog for details! Featuring: Playful Alphabet Dies, Stitched Rectangles Dies, Plaid Tidings Paper, Nothing's Better Than Stamp Set, Subtle Textured embossing; #schoolcards #backtoschool ##alphabetdies ##plaidpaper ##nothing'sbetterthan #stampinup #gdp259 #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #papercrafting #cardmaking

Why school?

The first thing I did was place “S-C-H-O-O-L” on Pretty Peacock Cardstock (4 1/2″ X 1 1/4″), which was adhered to a Foam Adhesive Sheet, the same size. I rolled this through my Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine, and turned it upside down for a second time through, making sure it had a clean cut.

I matched my letters to Plaid Tidings Designer Paper, which was predominately Pretty Peacock, and glued a 4 1/4″ X 3″ piece to the bottom of Whisper White Cardstock that was 4 1/4″ X 5 1/2″. This layer needed to be the same size as the card front, so it could be easily cut by the largest Stitched Rectangles Die.

Before gluing the layer to the Pretty Peacock card base, I gave it some interest with the Subtle Textured Embossing Folder.

The sentiment, from The Nothing’s Better Than Stamp Set, “Because adulting is hard,” makes me laugh. It was meant to go with “coffee, cocktails. cookies, and chocolate,” but I like it  used as a message to kids. Funny, but true!

In The Pines for Global Design Project 258

For those who love traditional, red & green Christmas cards, the Heartwarming Hugs Designer Paper is for you! Today’s card combines it with the In The Pines Stamp Set. I began with a Mossy Meadow card base (8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″) topped with one of the twelve designs of Heartwarming Hugs Designer Paper (5 1/4″ X 4″). I added a second layer of tiny dots to frame the pine trees (4 1/4″ X 3″).

By Su Mohr for #GDP258; Click READ or VISIT to go to my blog for details! Featuring: Heartwarming Hugs Paper, In The Pines Stamp Set, Itty Bitty Christmas Stamp Set, Stitched Rectangles Dies; #christmascards #holidaycards #treesoncards #Christmastrees #gdp258 #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #cardmaking #papercrafting #stampinup #traditionalchristmascards

Trio of Trees

Next, I stamped three trees from In The Pines on Whisper White Cardstock. I used Garden Green Ink, but I wasn’t thinking, and should have used Mossy Meadow Ink, because it coordinates with the designer paper. But, you probably can’t tell the difference, so no biggie, right?

The trees have a stamp that colors them, which I stamped using Pear Pizzazz Ink. You can view the complete stamp set in my Product List to better understand what I mean.

Then, I used a Stitched Rectangles Die (1″ X 2 1/4″) to cut the three trees, and I placed them in the middle of the dotted paper. I glued the middle tree first, which helped make the borders even, and the dots can be used to keep the rectangles straight.

The sentiment, “Christmas Cheer” is from the Itty Bitty Greetings Stamp Set. I stamped it in Real Red Ink on Thick Whisper White Cardstock, used the smallest Stitched Rectangles Die for cutting, and attached it with Mini Dimensionals. If you have the supplies in my Product List, this would be a “quick & easy” card.

Now it’s your turn to be inspired by this weeks Global Design Project sketch. Come play along by hanging your card in our gallery.
