The Little Drummer Boy (stamped from Musical Season and die cut from Musical Instruments) is drumming along on top of EIGHT layers.
This project needed to have layers, because I chose the left row down in this week’s Tic Tac Toe challenge.
And, the Paper Players sketch was perfect for layering.
I started with a Thick Whisper White card base, and layered it with Basic Black, topped with Emerald Envy, and a smaller layer of Basic Black. Next, would be a layer of ink blending for the Tic Tac Toe challenge.
I stamped three colors of ink (Tranquil Tide, Emerald Envy, Lemon Lime Twist) on the Sheet Music background stamp. After making the impression on Whisper White cardstock, I cut a piece to fit the black layer.
The next layer would use more ink blending, and a stencil. I die cut a stencil from the Eclectic Layers set, and placed it on Glossy White paper. Using the same three colors as the Sheet Music, I dabbed the colors over the stencil with cotton saturated with alcohol. After it dried, I cut a rectangle to fit the black layer, and this was popped up on dimensionals.
This photo shows the gloss of the stencil layer, and the dimension.
The sentiment, “Merry Christmas,” is from the Star of Light stamp set, fitting nicely in the die cut from Bunch of Banners.
The Little Drummer Boy has a foot on the sentiment, making him the eighth layer. This was a fun card to make, especially with the inspiration from the two challenges.
What a fabulous card, Su! I love that you stamped with three different colors on the music background stamp and then complimented it with the rest of the layers. I never even looked at the little drummer boy stay and die, it’s looks fantastic with how you’ve used it. The colors and dimension of this card have me sighing with delight. Thank you for playing along with the Tic Tac Toe Challenge this week!
Thank you, Shannon! Your nice comments are much appreciated!
Su…you rocked this challenge with your wonderful card. The non-traditional Christmas colors make this all the more special. Thanks for playing the TTTC again this week.
It’s so fun to hear I rocked a challenge. Thanks, Rosanne!
Stunning, Su! Like all great things, you’ve made the hard stuff look effortless. The drummer boy marching across the top is the icing on the cake. Great work. Thanks for joining us at The Paper Players this week.
Thank you, Jan! What nice things to say! I love that I made it look effortless, because that’s what I most want to convey.
Love the colors, Su. the black silhouette with the dark green and blue is gorgeous. Your blended background is beautiful. So glad you shared this lovely card with us at the Paper Players this week

Thank you, Jaydee, I was thinking about your sketch for several days before finding the right moment to create. I noticed when posting, I just made it under the wire!
Oh my goodness! This card just takes my breath away. Did you know you are an enabler? I think I can do without a stamp set with dies and you come up with a card like this. Thank you for sharing your creative talent.
Stella, you are so sweet! I’m so glad you like it, but you can improvise, and you don’t need all of the stamp sets.
