It’s time to make a square card, don’t you think? And, I’m in Christmas card mode, so here we go!

Very Merry Square Card
I began by cutting Gray Granite Cardstock at 4 1/4″ on the 11″ side of the 8 1/2″ X 11″ paper. Then, folded in half, which is 4 1/4″, making my square card base.
Gray Granite Cardstock blends beautifully with the wood texture, In Good Taste Designer Paper. This paper is fabulous, and the really good news is that it is one of the papers on sale for the month of October. The regular price is $21.00, more than the others, because you get 24 sheets, 12″ X 12″. But, this month, it can be yours for $17.85.
You can see the entire selection of papers below, and clicking on the pictures takes you to my store for purchasing.
Next, I cut two pieces of the wood texture paper: 1 1/4″ X 4″ and 2 1/2″ X 4″. I layered these on Real Red Cardstock 1/8″ larger, to give a 1/16th” border. I wrapped the right side in LinenThread, and glued the layers to the card base, leaving a separation between them.
The tree was made with a Pine Woods Die, Shaded Spruce Cardstock, and a Foam Adhesive Sheet, cut to 2 1/4″ X 3 1/4″. I really like Foam Adhesive Sheets, and the results. BUT, it was difficult removing all the tiny, sticky, pieces between the branches, and I won’t attempt it again with this tree.
The sentiment, “very merry,” is from the Itty Bitty Christmas Stamp Set, stamped in Early Espresso Ink on Gray Granite Cardstock. I used an Ornate Frames Die for cutting, attached it with Dimensionals, and my square, “very merry,” card was complete.
I was inspired by Freshly Made Sketches.

Beautiful card! That tree die is so wonderfully detailed! Thanks so much for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches.
Adorable card. I really like the look of the square cards I’ve been seeing…..but what about an envelope? I’ve seen 3 x 3 square envelopes but not ones that will fit a 4+ inch card. Are they available anywhere or are people making their own? Really wondering…
Thanks,
Faith Simpson
Thank you, Faith! I haven’t investigated square envelopes, because I use Stampin’ Up’s medium envelopes that fit this 4 1/4 X 4 1/4 size, with just 1 1/4″ left over. And, there’s no extra charge for mailing.
Beautiful card, Su. Love this DSP. Enjoy your day!
Thank you, Hilda! Yes, there’s so much texture to it. You have a great day also!
I don’t understand the base measurements…8 1/2 by 4 1/4 scored at 4 1/4. What am I reading wrong?
Hi Dale,
On the 11″ side of the 8 1/2″ X 11″ paper, cut at 4 1/4″. Then, fold in half, which is 4 1/4″. I clarified my instructions. Thanks!
Wow, I love this card. It is also very masculine. Trees make any card beautiful.
Thank you, Stella! I’m so glad you like it!
