Hello September! First of all, I want to congratulate the winners of my drawing for 100 sheets of 6″ X 6″ retired Stampin’ Up! Designer Paper. Because I had more paper than I realized, I get to congratulate four customers: Doris P., Gretchen S., Rebecca S., and Wendy B. YAY! I’ll be mailing your paper along with your Host Code gifts, the Greenery Embossing Folders as soon as I receive my order. Plus, all of my customers, with qualifying orders, will be receiving the Greenery Embossing Folders.
Each stack has 100 sheets, so you can see there’ll be more winners in the future.

I thought it would be appropriate to create a Halloween card for the first day in September. We need to make these cards now, in order to have them ready to mail for Halloween. Besides, Spooky, the Halloween cat, was getting anxious to make an appearance. Can you guess where I found this crazy cat?
Spooky is from the Playful Pets Designer Paper, and I fussy cut him free from the “cute” pets. I don’t think they were sad to see him go. As expected, Spooky was opinionated, and said he had to have an orange and black theme.
I used the largest Rectangles Stitched Die to cut a layer from Basic Black Cardstock, and the second largest Stitched Rectangles Die to cut the next layer from Pumpkin Pie Cardstock. These were glued on a Thick Whisper White card base, but not until everything else was complete.

Spooky
After going through every single one of the Plaid Tidings patterns, Spooky found the perfect one. I admitted, it was perfect for our color scheme, and we used a smaller Stitched Rectangles Die (approx. 3 1/2″ X 2″) for cutting.

Spooky wanted his card to be scary, so, thanks to me, we found a spider and its web that would frighten anyone! Fortunately, I had ordered the Festive Corners Stamp Set, and this was the perfect opportunity to use these scary stamps. It’s pretty cool the way the web fits around the corner, don’t you think? And, can you believe, the stamp set has his name, SPOOKY! You can see the complete set in my Product List below.

I stamped everything in Memento Black Ink, and his name fit perfectly within another Stitched Rectangles Die (approx. 1″ X 2 3/4″). It was all glued flat, except Spooky and his name, because he wanted to be prominently elevated on Dimensionals, and I wasn’t about to argue.

Whew! I managed this card with only a few scratches. I’m not sure who the recipient will be, but I’m sure Spooky will let me know.
Now let’s see what my Host Code gift is for September.

It’s Monday morning, and time for a new challenge at Global Design Project. This week we are casing Kayla McCreadie.

I was immediately attracted to the background, and wanted to give it a try. To mimic Kayla’s use of the globe, I used a circular, Painted Labels Die.

Die-cut background
First, I cut nine of the fancy circles from Whisper White Cardstock, and positioned them on Whisper White Cardstock, 4 1/4″ X 5 1/2″. I wanted this layer to be the same size as the card base, so I could cut it down with the largest Stitched Rectangles Die. You could trim the edge by hand with scissors, but this is a quick way to give a nice, even border. It was a little tight going through the die cutting machine, because of the double layer of cardstock.
The circles were glued in the solid center, and are secure without glue on the intricate edge.

Before gluing my die-cut layer to the Crumb Cake card base, I tied Linen Thread around it, and added a knot.

My foliage was created with the Forever Fern Stamp Set and Forever Flourishing Dies. They can be purchased separately, but you’ll get a 10% discount by purchasing them in a bundle. I stamped three of the plants in three colors of ink: Just Jade, Shaded Spruce, and Garden Green, and used their matching dies for cutting. You can see just a bit of the fourth branch that wasn’t stamped, but simply cut from Soft Sea Foam Cardstock. It’s the die at the top of the photo.
I glued the Soft Sea Foam branch to the card front, and attached the others with Dimensionals. They have nice, little stems for gathering behind the sentiment label.

The sentiment, “Thank You,” is from the Peaceful Moments Stamp Set, stamped in Shaded Spruce Ink, and cut with an Ornate Frames Die. I gave it some texture with the Subtle Textured Embossing Folder, and layered it for sturdiness. There is an Adhesive Foam Strip along the bottom edge of the label to make it the same height as the foliage, and a small amount of glue at the top of the label where it touches the foliage. In case you didn’t know, the Adhesive Foam Strips are twice the thickness of regular Dimensionals.

Creating this die-cut background was a fun challenge. Why don’t you join us by casing Kayla, and sharing your cards in our gallery?

The Love of Leaves Stamp Set and Stitched Leaves Dies are perfect for making Thanksgiving cards. You’ll save 10% by purchasing them in a bundle, which you can see in my Product List below.

I began by stamping the three leaves in three colors of ink, Pumpkin Pie, Terracotta Tile, and Bumblebee, on Whisper White Cardstock. Then, I used their three Stitched Leaves Dies for cutting the exterior, along with their three imprint dies to make the interior stitching. Fun, huh? The stamps give a watercolored appearance, and I really like the detail of the stitching.

For the background, I used a Stitched Rectangles Die to cut Whisper White Cardstock (2 3/4″ X 4″), and gave this a 1/16″ border of Soft Suede Cardstock.
The sentiment, “Simply Thankful for all the good things,” is from the Country Home Stamp Set, stamped in Soft Suede Ink.

The card base is Thick Whisper White Cardstock, topped with In Color, 6X6″ Designer Paper, in dotted Bumblebee, cut with the Largest Stitched Rectangles Die. After gluing all the layers, I attached the leaves with Dimensionals. Isn’t this dotted paper fantastic? It seems to go with everything!

I was inspired by Freshly Made Sketches.

Today’s card is yesterday’s design in traditional, red and green, Christmas colors. I was thinking of a quick & easy design, for assembly line card making, that allows you to make two cards with one wreath.

Christmas Wreath
This card began with a Very Vanilla card base (8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″) to blend with the layer of Toile Tidings Designer Paper. I took the extra step of embossing it with the Tasteful Textile Embossing Folder, but this isn’t necessary.
I cut the first wreath circle from Real Red Cardstock, the second wreath circle from Garden Green Cardstock, held the two together, and cut them in half with my Paper Snips.
The two halves will fit flush to the border, so you don’t have to worry about overhang to trim. This makes gluing easy, because you can see exactly where you need to place the dots of glue.

You just need to remember to leave a tiny bit of the wreath unglued, for your sentiment placement. “Happy Christmas” is from the new Snow Wonder Stamp Set, stamped in Real Red Ink on Thick Very Vanilla Cardstock, and cut with a Snow Time Die. I attached it with Dimensionals, so it would have, guess what….dimension!
The added bonus is, you still have the other half of the wreath for a second, easily assembled card!

Here is yesterday’s card for reference; click on it for details.

Last year I started making Christmas cards in July. This year, I held off until the middle of August when it was good and hot, LOL. Maybe this frosty scene will cool us off!
I began by cutting the bottom circle of the wreath from a blue and purple section of Rainbow Glimmer Paper. This is one of the Wreath Builder Dies, and you can see the entire set in my Product List below. The gorgeous, Rainbow Glimmer Paper is there also.

Special Wreath
Next, I cut the top circle of the wreath from Seaside Spay Cardstock. I had previously decided that the card base (8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″) would be Seaside Spray.
I had also chosen the background for the wreath, a 5 1/4″ X 4″ piece of Feels Like Frost Designer Paper. It blends with Seaside Spray perfectly, don’t you think?
Before gluing the Feels Like Frost layer to the card base, I glued the wreath, so I could snip the overhang from the border. I held the circles with my hand, on the overhang portion (one circle at a time), to avoid a gluey mess. I also left a couple leaves unglued, so I could attach the sentiment beneath them.

The sentiment is from the Perfectly Plaid Stamp Set, one that I used many times last year, and it’s still a favorite. I stamped it in Gorgeous Grape Ink on Thick Whisper White Cardstock, and used one of the new, Snow Time Dies, for cutting.

The colors and sketch were inspired by Fusion.

I’m putting the Basket Of Blooms Stamp Set to use once again, with its coordinating Small Bloom Punch.

Blooms on a vine
The vine was created with two stamps from the Basket Of Blooms Stamp Set. I first stamped the long branch in Garden Green Ink on Whisper White Cardstock (4″ X 5 1/4″), angled, and toward the right side. Then, I stamped it a second time, in the opposite direction, with the ends meeting in the middle. Next, I stamped the short brach three times, with all the ends meeting in the middle. Also, after inking the stamp, I stamped on scratch paper first, to make the ink a lighter shade. This is called “stamping off,” and something I do frequently.
After coloring the vine with a Light Old Olive Stampin’ Blend, I used the second largest Stitched Rectangles Die for cutting the layer, and glued it to a Garden Green card base (8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″).
It’s kinda sad to cut off part of the vine, but it creates the feeling of extending beyond the card, which is nice, right?

Now for the blooms! I stamped the flower in Melon Mambo Ink, three times, on Whisper White Cardstock, and used the Small Bloom Punch for cutting. This is really fun; too bad I only needed three! Then, I colored them with a Light Poppy Parade Stampin’ Blend, and attached them with Mini-Dimensionals. See how I covered the connecting branches in the middle?

Last, but not least, the sentiment. “Sent with love” is from the Itty Bitty Greetings Stamp Set, stamped in Garden Green Ink, and cut with the smallest Stitched So Sweetly Die. Don’t you love the shape of this die?

I think you can see how I was inspired by CAS(E) this sketch.
