Metallic Dashing Deer

I was inspired by the challenge at Less Is More, keeping it simple while using metallics.

I began with a Thick Whisper White card base, and only added three items. How simple is that!

The deer is from the Detailed Deer die set, cut from a piece of Gold Foil. He was given texture by running him through the Big Shot with the Subtle Textured embossing folder. TIP: Be careful with the antlers, because embossing makes them brittle.

The circular piece behind the deer is from the Beautiful Layers die set, which is cut from Thick Whisper White cardstock.

After carefully gluing the two pieces to the card front, I decided to use my “go to” sentiment.

“Merry Christmas,” from the Star of Light stamp set, is heat embossed with Gold Powder on Thick Whisper White cardstock, and cut with a Bunch of Banners die. I placed it on Mini-Dimensionals, and my card was complete. Lickety-split!

This photo really captures the metallic shine.

Thank you for visiting me today. I hope I’ve given you an idea for a card with pizzazz that you can make, lickety-split!

Under the Mistletoe Panel Fold Card

Under the Mistletoe Designer Series Paper has wonderful “twin prints” that I used for today’s “Panel Fold” card.

Panel Fold card

The inspiration for my “Panel Fold” design is this week’s challenge at Freshly Made Sketches.

I started with a standard 4 1/4″ X 5 1/2″ Thick Whisper White card base, and cut a 3/4″ strip from the card front. Next, I cut the Thick Whisper White panel, 2 1/2″ X 4 1/2,” layered on Shaded Spruce cardstock that is 1/8″ larger, to give the panel a 1/16″ border.

The panel is decorated with a stamp of Santa and his reindeer from the Hearts Come Home stamp set. I get excited when I see this stamp, because of wonderful, childhood memories.

The tree (Winter Woods stamp set) is stamped in Shaded Spruce and Old Olive, and cut with a die (In the Woods die set). TIP: I used the Stamparatus to add the two colors to the tree, and then touched the tree with a Baby Wipe to blend the colors a bit.

“Merry Christmas” (retired Itty Bitty Greetings stamp set) is stamped in Real Red, and cut with the Classic Label punch.

The tree and sentiment are raised on dimensionals.

After gluing the reindeer pattern of Under the Mistletoe DSP to the card front, I attached the panel to overlap the inside of the card. I completed the panel with a piece of Under the Mistletoe DSP, which you’ll see in a second.

Here is the same “twin print” DSP for the inside of the card as on the back of the panel. The inside sentiment (Dashing Deer stamp set) is stamped in Black ink, and cut with a Stitched Shapes square die.  The left side is ready for a personal message.

I really enjoyed making this “Panel Fold” Christmas card. Thank you for for following along! Keep scrolling for my Product List.

Dashing Deer Meets Buffalo Check

The Dashing Deer stamp set was my “must have” when I first saw the Holiday catalog. Sure enough, I’ve used this stamp set, along with the Detailed Deer dies, more than any other Bundle.  Here is Tappy, the tapestry reindeer, stamped in Soft Seafoam ink on Thick Whisper White cardstock.

Dashing Deer in Soft Sea Foam

Today’s project was inspired by the Global Design project. The challenge was to CASE the designer, Louise Sharp. Her soft colors are so pretty, and her Buffalo Check background looks fabulous.

Working on Christmas cards remains a priority for me, so I found the lightest “Christmas” green I have, Soft Sea Foam, and inked up my Buffalo Check background stamp. The Stamparatus insured a good coverage of ink, because it enabled me to stamp several times. I layered the Buffalo Check on a Sahara Sand card base, which I layered with a 3″ X 4″ piece of Sahara Sand cardstock to approximate Louise’s card.  To add dimension to this top layer, I ran it through the Big Shot with the Corrugated embossing folder.

Tappy was anxiously waiting on the sideline for his turn to be inked up with Soft Sea Foam. I used his Detailed Deer die for cutting, and he was ready to be glued to his corrugated background. Before gluing his background to the Buffalo Check layer, I tied some Braided Linen Trim around the bottom.

I apologize for using a sentiment from the Christmas Greetings die set, because it has retired. But, isn’t “merry” beautiful in Sparkle Glimmer Paper?

I couldn’t keep from using “merry,” because I’ve been thinking about the die set that’s in the new Occasions catalog,  It’s named, “Well Said,” and has 24 dies, mostly words.  Demonstrators will be able and to order it December 5th, and customers in January. WHOOPEE!!!

I’ll also use the excuse that Tappy was encouraging me by saying he wanted a word that sparkled to match his neckwear. We both thought a sprinkling of Iridescent Sequins would look nice, and hope you agree.

That’s it for today. But, I already know that Tappy will be making another appearance on Monday, November 19th. If you want your own Tappy, just click on his picture in my Product List below. Thanks for shopping at my store!

How To Make A Poinsettia Christmas Card

Today’s project is a Christmas card featuring a poinsettia in the colors of Poppy Parade, Smoky Slate and So Saffron.

By Su Mohr for PP418; Click VISIT or READ to go to my blog for details! Featuring: Rooted in Nature Bundle, Oh So Eclectic stamp set, Eclectic Layers dies, Gingham, Bunch of Banners, Subtle Texture, Star of Light; #christmascards #poinsettia #handmadecards #flowersoncards #diy #xmascards #rootedinnature #stampinup #pp418

Christmas Poinsettia

I wanted to use these colors, because of this week’s challenge at Paper Players.

While making my card, I learned an interesting tidbit about poinsettias:

“Did you know that the poinsettia’s main attraction is not its flowers, but its leaves? The flowers of the plant are the yellow clustered buds in the center (termed “cyathia”). The colored leafy parts are actually bracts or modified leaves, that turn color in response to the plant forming flowers.”

No wonder the “leaf” from the Rooted in Nature Bundle makes a perfect poinsettia! The So Saffron, “flower” in the center, is from the Oh So Eclectic stamp set, and cut with its Eclectic Layers die.

For the Paper Player’s color scheme, I chose Smoky Slate for the card base, layered with Poppy Parade, and topped with Whisper White. I embossed the top layer with the Subtle Textured embossing folder. Then, I used Tear & Tape to attach a piece of Smoky Slate Gingham ribbon around the middle. (This color has retired, but Night of Navy Gingham Ribbon is available). Next, I stamped three leaves from the Rooted in Nature stamp set in Smoky Slate on Whisper White cardstock, and glued them in place.

Next, I stamped six Leaves in Poppy Parade on Whisper White cardstock. But, this time I stamped on a foam mat; the one that comes with the die brush. You can see the white spaces on the leaves, which is the look I wanted.

I used a stylus on the back of the leaves to give a rounded shape, before placing them on dimensionals in a circle. This created the spot for the So Saffron “flower.”

“Merry Christmas,” from the Star of Light stamp set, is stamped in Smoky Slate on Thick Whisper White cardstock, and cut with a Bunch of Banners die.

Today’s card is a CASE of a card I designed a while ago. And, the person with the original idea to use the leaf from Rooted in Nature is credited in my first post.

I have to admit that among my favorite gifts to receive is a gift card. It’s so much fun to go shopping, and not spend any money. Right? So, today, I’m sharing my favorite gift card holder.

By Su Mohr for Pals Blog Hop Novemeber 2018; Click READ or VISIT to go to my blog for details! Gift Card Holders

I began by selecting three patterns of Under the Mistletoe Designer Series Paper, and three pieces of 8 1/2″ X 11″ cardstock in the coordinating colors of Real Red, Old Olive, and Shaded Spruce. One piece of cardstock makes two gift card holders.

 INSTRUCTIONS

Cut the 8 1/2″ X 11″ cardstock into two pieces that are 7 3/4″ X 5″.  Score at 6″ and 2 1/2″.

Cut two pieces of Designer Series Paper: The bottom front is 4 3/4″ X 2 1/4″. The top front is 4 3/4″ X 1 1/2″.

Cut one piece of Whisper White cardstock for the sentiment on the inside, 4 3/4″ X 1 1/2″.

Use a circle punch to make a finger slot in the middle of the bottom front.

Attach a piece of Tear & Tape to each side of the bottom inside, and close, sealing your pocket.

Cut a 1″ X 8″ strip for the band. Score at 6 1/8″ and 2 1/2″. It’s important to have that extra 1/8″ so the band will move freely. Glue together, having the raw edge in front, which will be covered by the deer. This keeps the back looking smooth and pretty.

Decorating the band is the most fun part! I love our “camouflaged” Dashing Deer, and stamped him in Shaded Spruce, Old Olive and Early Espresso.  Then, I used his Detailed Deer die for cutting. I used Thick Whisper White cardstock, so the part that isn’t glued to the band would be sturdy.  Before gluing, I marked the back of the deer with a pencil, so I could see where to place the glue.

I hope you have fun making my favorite gift card holder.  This is my third year for making these, so if you’d like more pictures and instructions, you can follow the links:

Botanical Bliss “Cut” Flowers Birthday Card

For today’s project, I’m sharing a birthday card with “cut” flowers, “die cut” that is.

By Su Mohr for tgifc185; Click READ or VISIT to go to my blog for details! Featuring: Botanical Bliss stamp set: Botanical Tags dies, Stampin' Blends markers; #handmadecards #birthdaycards #stampinup #botanicalbliss #botanicaltags #stampinblends #flowersoncards #floralcards #coloring #crafts #diy

Botanical Bliss

The Botanical Tags die set has a beautiful, single flower that belongs at the top of a tag. However, there is also a die to cut the bottom edge of the flower and leaves, as I’m showing you today.

I ran the Botanical Bliss flower die through the Big Shot with Thick Whisper White cardstock, and a second time through the Big Shot with the die to cut the bottom edge of the flower.

Once I had my three flowers, I “painted” them with Stampin’ Blends in these colors: Light and Dark Daffodil Delight, Light and Dark Petal Pink, and Light and Dark Flirty Flamingo. I used Light and Dark Old Olive for the leaves, and Color Lifter on the flowers to soften the colors.

Sahara Sand makes a nice, neutral background, and card base, with a layer of Old Olive cardstock between them. I stamped “Happy Birthday” from the Botanical Bliss stamp set in Old Olive ink to tie in with the leaves and 1/16″ border.

Before gluing the flowers to their background, I positioned them with two die cut stems, made with the Botanical Tags die set and Sahara Sand cardstock.

My inspiration for today’s project was the sketch challenge at TGIF.

I’m also sharing with Seize the Birthday.
