Hawaiian ALOHA Lei Handmade Card

This month’s theme is “travel.” The timing is perfect for me, because my husband and I will be flying to Hawaii in less than two weeks. You can see from my entry, I have “Aloha” and leis on my mind.

Hawaiian ALOHA Lei

The first thing that came to my mind was the word, “ALOHA,” carved from Koa wood, the legendary, native Hawaiian wood. I found the letters in the Large Letters die set, and they fit perfectly across a landscape card front. The wood is from the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper, and after triple layering the paper letters, they look and feel like real Koa wood.

In addition to Koa wood, you can’t travel to Hawaii without seeing leis. The colors of the glorious flowers is a feast for your eyes. Not to mention the fragrance! Oh my goodness, the fragrance in Hawaii is unforgettable! So, my card has a lei, made with flowers from the Beautiful Bouquet stamp set. I stamped the flower in three ink colors: Berry Burst, Rich Razzleberry and Lovely Lipstick. After stamping them on Whisper White cardstock, I cut them with their die from the Bouquet Bunch die set.

I used two of the Layering Oval dies for “stringing” my flowers. Actually, I just attached them to the narrow, die-cut oval with Liquid Glue. I could have glued the flowers directly to the card front, but the oval insured the lei would be the right size and shape.

The background for ALOHA, and my lei is Whisper White, with a 1/16″ border of Garden Green. Garden Green seemed like a natural choice, because of the lush foliage in Hawaii.

The last detail was the three Share What You Love Artisan Pearls. It seemed appropriate, because there’s an abundance of jewelry and gorgeous pearl necklaces wherever you go.

We’ll be visiting our daughter, son-in-law and grandson who live in Hawaii, so this card is for them. I think it’s neat that ALOHA is used when greeting or parting from someone, so you’re never really saying goodbye. The inside sentiment is from the Better Together stamp set.  “May life be filled with fond memories,” is especially meant for them.

Thank you for visiting my blog.  ALOHA!

A Little Wild Elephant Celebrates Birthday

I’d like you to meet Elvis, the CUTEST elephant from A Little Wild stamp set. He has taken a back seat to the cuties in Animal Outing, but it’s time to let him move to the front. When he saw the rhino wearing a Blueberry Bushel, Bokeh Dot suit, he wanted a Bokeh Dot suit in Smoky Slate. In fact, he wanted this suit for all of his friends!

A Little Wild elephant

In case you missed the rhino, here he is. (you may click on the link for details.)

Animal Outing Shows Off Five New Colors

Once suited up, Elvis and his friends are ready to celebrate a birthday, and requested balloons from the Blow Out the Candles Bundle. Don’t you like the colors they chose? Pineapple Punch, Lemon Lime Twist, and Pool Party are stamped randomly on Whisper White cardstock.

Elvis is the one showing his backside, because he turned around to grab the white balloon with his trunk.

The elephants agreed they wanted this card to be from all of them, so I was lucky to find this sentiment from the Itty Bitty Greetings stamp set, “best wishes from all of us.”

The inside says “Happy Birthday” from Blow Out the Candles. And, Elvis insisted on decorating the envelope flap with gray dots. Even though it’s retired Designer Series Paper, I had to comply.

The elephants were so happy with their birthday celebration card, they said I should enter it in the Paper Players challenge.

They also wanted to enter it in the Seize the Birthday challenge, which is asking that “toppings” be sequins on a birthday card. Elvis wanted more sequins, but I said five is enough.

Elvis wants to thank you for visiting today. He would love for you to comment how cute he is, and said I should mention that his stamp and die are available at my store. I think he wants to be duplicated throughout the land.

Welcome to the Kre8tors July 2018 Blog Hop

Welcome to the Kre8tors July 2018 Blog Hop. This will be our first hop involving a sketch challenge. I really like participating in challenges, because they provide inspiration through color, theme, or layout. I can’t wait to see what everyone has done with today’s sketch.

At the bottom of my post you’ll find the Blog Hop Line-Up, or you can just click the “next” button. It will take you to the next fabulous project.

I chose to design my project around a a stamp set that immediately “caught” my eye in the Stampin’ Up 2018-2019 annual catalog. The “dream catcher”  (Follow Your Dreams, page 54) spoke to me. Dream catchers are beautiful works of art, and duplicating this with paper is so much fun!

There is a wonderful die in the Chase Your Dreams die set that looks much like the photo above. I used this die to cut two dreamcatchers from cardstock; one from Thick Whisper White, one from Crumb Cake, and glued them together. Can you see the layered feathers in the two colors?

Follow Your Dreams

The background has four layers, beginning with a Crumb Cake card base. It is layered with Wood Textures Designer Series Paper, doubled with cardstock for thickness.

The next layer is a square piece of Blueberry Bushel cardstock, which provides a frame for a piece of Share What You Love Designer Series Paper.

The fourth layer is a Crumb Cake banner, holding the sentiment. “Follow Your Dreams” is from the stamp set, appropriately named, Follow Your Dreams. This square is raised on Adhesive strips for dimension.

The inside of the card is made special by a Swirly Frames, rectangular stamp in Crumb Cake ink. And, The three feathers were stamped in Blueberry Bushel ink, and cut with their two dies.

I used the Wood Grain embossing folder to decorate the envelope flap, keeping with the rustic theme.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention the blue bead in the center of the dream catcher. Funny how one, little bead can add so much! You’ll find a variety of colors in the Tranquil Textures Sprinkles, available at my store.

Serene Garden Bird Sympathy Card

The challenge at CAS(E) this sketch is my inspiration for today’s project. The jet plane is an eye-catcher. Right?

I’m choosing another flying object; my new, favorite bird from the Serene Garden stamp set.

By Su Mohr for cts279; Click READ to go to my blog for details; Featuring: Serene Garden, Garden Scene, Rooted in Nature, Stampin' Blends, Subtle Texture; #serenegarden #natureoncards #birdsoncards #birds #sympathycards #handmadecards #diy #rootedinnature #stampinup

Serene Garden Bird

Deciding on colors is my biggest hurdle. I land on a Very Vanilla card base with layers of Crumb Cake and Petal Pink, using my Stampin’ Trimmer to cut the pieces according to the sketch.

I stamp the Serene Garden bird in Basic Black ink on Thick Whisper White cardstock, and pick out five Stampin’ Blends for coloring: Light and Dark Crumb Cake, Ivory, Light Pumpkin Pie, and Light Calypso Coral.

I’m so happy my bird has a die for cutting. But, I want to have some 3D fun, so I stamp a second bird, and fussy cut her right wing. Then, I color it, and place it on dimensionals over her original wing.

To add a little more interest, I emboss the Petal Pink layer with the Subtle embossing folder.

As I’m gluing things together, I’m thinking it’s very “serene,” and will be a good sympathy card. The Rooted in Nature stamp set has the perfect sentiment, “words are never enough.”

I’m also linking my card to the Stamps Paper Ink challenge. It’s card maker’s choice, and this turned out to be among my favorite things.

Having the July 4th holiday in the middle of the week has me confused. But, I’m ready for another weekend. How about you? If you’re needing craft supplies, check out my store. I pictured the ones I used for today’s card. Enjoy!

Daisy Delight Brings Sunshine Wishes

The Daisy Punch, with its coordinating Daisy Delight stamp set, is still a favorite of mine. My daughter chose it for her wedding invitations, and I’m using it today for a Global Design Project challenge.

Daisy Delight Brings Sunshine Wishes

The challenge is to use three colors: Fresh Fig, the returning Mint Macaron, and the new Grapefruit Grove.

I’m also linking to the Sunday Stamps challenge.

I first inked the daisy petals in Grapefruit Grove, and stamped once on Thick Whisper White cardstock. Then, without re-inking, I stamped a second time. This makes a lighter impression, and is called “stamping off.” My Daisy Punch easily punched the petals, and I attached the two with a dimensional.

I stamped the center of the flower in Fresh Fig, “stamping off” to make it lighter. The 1/2″ Circle Punch is just the right size for this flower center. You can imagine how this came in handy for all of those wedding invitations.

The leaf is a “two-step” stamping process. I inked the solid leaf stamp in Mint Macaron, and stamped-off on Whisper White cardstock. Then, I used full strength in Mint Macaron for the outline. It doesn’t have a die, so I used Paper Snip Scissors for cutting.

My pretty daisy was ready for a background; a layer I wanted to keep white, but with interest. I punched a full daisy, along with half a daisy in the corner. Then, I embossed this layer with the Softly Falling embossing folder, and adhered it to the Thick Whisper White card base.

I popped on my daisy with one more dimensional, and all I needed was a sentiment. The Sunshine Wishes die set provided “hope.” I used the solid flower center stamp to add Fresh Fig ink to Whisper White cardstock (like a dauber), and cut “hope” with its die. The word fit nicely along the bottom of my discreet, white daisy.

I “hope” you were inspired by my daisy card. If you’d like to make some daisies of your own, I invite you to shop at my store. Just click on the pictures below.

Puzzle Pieces for July

Thank you for visiting my blog with the continuing theme of “friendship.”

Today’s project is a birthday card, because I send more birthday cards to friends and family than any other kind. And, I’m always needing cards suitable for a man. So, the idea for this card sprang from the Nature’s Poem Suite, which makes wonderful, manly cards.

Bt Su Mohr for Kylie Bertucci's Top Ten Blog Hop; Click READ to go to my blog for details! Featuring: Puzzle Pieces, Nature's Poem, Love You To Pieces, Rooted in Nature; #jigsawpuzzles #puzzlepieces #stampinup #rootedinnature #naturespoem #birthdaycards #masculinecards #handmadecards #diy

Nature’s Poem Puzzle Pieces

I first stamped the tree from the Rooted in Nature stamp set, along with the sentiment, “You are wonderful.” Where is the word, “wonderful?” Am I missing some puzzle pieces? Keep scrolling for the answer.

The tree is Tranquil Tide ink, and the sentiment is Soft Suede ink, stamped on Whisper White cardstock.

Before using the Puzzle Pieces die for cutting, I backed the tree and sentiment with an extra piece of cardstock for thickness. The die is a square, and makes sixteen individual pieces, so it’s like a real jigsaw puzzle.

I wanted to give my puzzle a handsome background, and chose a leaf print from Nature’s Poem Designer Series Paper. This was layered on Tranquil Tide cardstock, coordinating with a Sahara Sand card base.

The beginning of the sentiment, “You are,” is on the card front. But, you have to open the card to see, “wonderful.”  And, there are the four missing puzzle pieces.

I also added “Happy Birthday,” which is from the At Home with You stamp set.

The envelope flap is decorated by stamping a puzzle piece from the Love You to Pieces stamp set.

I’ve always loved jigsaw puzzles, which explains my enthusiasm for this Stampin’ Up! bundle. Click on the link below to see another recent jigsaw puzzle project. The supplies I used for both cards are listed at the bottom of each post.

Jigsaw Puzzle Pieces Love You to Pieces

Have a wonderful day!
