Autumn Bouquet Thank you Card

This project is a combination of not one, not two, but THREE challenges.  The theme is Autumn Floral from Paper Players.

The colors of Cajun Craze, Tranquil Tide, and Rich Razzleberry are from Fab Friday.

The sketch is from CASE(E) this sketch.

You would think that with all of this input, there would be nothing left to decide. Not true. But, it did narrow my choices, and I saw a picture in my mind of the end result.

I began with a Tranquil Tide card base topped with a piece of Wood Texture Designer Series Paper embossed by the Hexagon embossing folder. I chose a lighter shade of the Wood Texture DSP for the diagonal strip in the sketch. I layered this on cardstock for strength, and used an Eclectic Layers die to cut a trellis for my flowers.

The flowers and leaves, also from Eclectic Layers, were die cut from Thick Very Vanilla cardstock. I used my Aqua Painter, swiping the brush across the Rich Razzleberry ink pad, and coloring the two flowers. I turned up the edges of the flowers while they were still damp, and let them dry. The same coloring method was used for the Tranquil Tide leaves.

You’ll never guess where I found the Cajun Craze blossoms. I used a Detailed Floral Thinlits Die on a prior project, and couldn’t toss these cute, little cut-outs. They became part of my Autumn Bouquet, and I was glad I saved them. I know hoarders understand.

I glued the flowers and leaves to the front of the trellis, and carefully placed dimensionals on the back where they would be hidden.

The final detail was the wooden “THANKS” sign from The At Home With You set.

Thank you to the designers of all three challenges for your inspiration! This 3 in 1 really was a challenge!

Happy Birthday Memories Large Letters Long Card

I remember the first time I saw these cute animals at OnStage last April. This section of the Designer Series Paper was just what I was looking for to experiment with the Large Letters Framelits Dies.

TIP: If you like what you see, this DSP is included in the special Stampin’ Up! sale that started today, October 1st.

I selected Pool Party cardstock as the card base, and cut  it 8″ X 7″, and scored it 3 1/2″, same as the Merry Christmas card I posted yesterday.

Large Letters Long Christmas Card

I cut the letters as before, but used Kraft paper for the triple layering, and I added dimensionals so the letters would really stand out against the busy print.

I stamped “Birthday” (Crazy About You stamp set) in Pacific Point Ink, and punched it out with the Classic Label Punch.

I’ll be making our standard size cards with these letters also. So many ideas are swirling in my mind. Why did I wait so long to get this set? Well, It wasn’t cheap, but I’m so happy to have it now.

Have a HAPPY day!

Large Letters Long Christmas Card

I’ve been seeing so many wonderful cards using the Large Alphabet, I HAD to have these large letters. I was thrilled to receive them yesterday, and set out creating my first card using them.

Hmmmm, my first question was, how could I use more letters on the card front? My solution was using Stesha Bloodhart’s looooong card measurements. The Real Red card base measures 8″ X 7″, and is scored at 3 1/2″. This accommodated my five “MERRY” letters from the Merry Music Designer Specialty Paper with room to spare for a six letter word.

I used a black print for the background from the same pack of DSP. Aren’t those cute, little swirly things? The letters were raised by using three layers of Thick Whisper White cardstock, which made good use of my scraps, and didn’t take that much time.

I decided to say “MERRY, Merry Christmas,” and used the sentiment from the Star of Light stamp set with the Bunch of Banners die. I taped the back of this die cut banner, so it would sit firmly atop the Baker’s Twine. I secured the Baker’s Twine with Tear Tape, which I wound around five times, and added a bow.

Two Pretty Pines dies provided the greenery, cut from Garden Green cardstock. I tucked six boughs beneath the banner, and this completed my first Large Alphabet card.

I already have more long, large letter cards in the works.

Thanks for visiting. I hope you were inspired!

Musical Merry Christmas

The Little Drummer Boy (stamped from Musical Season and die cut from Musical Instruments) is drumming along on top of EIGHT layers.

This project needed to have layers, because I chose the left row down in this week’s Tic Tac Toe challenge.

And, the Paper Players sketch was perfect for layering.

I started with a Thick Whisper White card base, and layered it with Basic Black, topped with Emerald Envy, and a smaller layer of Basic Black. Next, would be a layer of ink blending for the Tic Tac Toe challenge.

I stamped three colors of ink (Tranquil Tide, Emerald Envy, Lemon Lime Twist) on the Sheet Music background stamp. After making the impression on Whisper White cardstock, I cut a piece to fit the black layer.

The next layer would use more ink blending, and a stencil. I die cut a stencil from the Eclectic Layers set, and placed it on Glossy White paper. Using the same three colors as the Sheet Music, I dabbed the colors over the stencil with cotton saturated with alcohol. After it dried, I cut a rectangle to fit the black layer, and this was popped up on dimensionals.

This photo shows the gloss of the stencil layer, and the dimension.

The sentiment, “Merry Christmas,” is from the Star of Light stamp set, fitting nicely in the die cut from Bunch of Banners.

The Little Drummer Boy has a foot on the sentiment, making him the eighth layer. This was a fun card to make, especially with the inspiration from the two challenges.

Dragonfly Thank you Card

The popularity of the Stampin’ Up! Dragonfly Bundle is proof that dragonflies can be beautiful. So, this insect will once again adorn one of my creations.

This card actually began with the background. I wanted to use one of my favorite sheets of Designer Series Paper from Painted Autumn. I love this tiny, “wallpaper,” leaf print. Why wallpaper? My mother would have gone to Standard Brands Paint Company (in the 50s) and chosen this to paper a room in our house. What goes around, comes around, as they say.

This paper would look nice on a Garden Green base card, so that was my second decision.

Third, I would use this week’s sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.

I used The Layering Circle dies to cut the circle in Garden Green to match the card base. The question was, what would I put in the circle? One of my favorite color combinations is green and blue, so I chose Soft Sky in watercolor paper. This gave the circle a window appearance. What would be in the Soft Sky, round window? Old Olive, flying dragonflies, of course!

Keeping with the nature theme, and following the sketch, I added a strip of Burlap Ribbon. I just ordered more of this Burlap Ribbon, because I maintain that any card where it appears can be given to a man.

I’m thrilled with the Copper Foil “thanks,” which completes the sketch, and I even embrace the little dots. Here’s my rationalization: it adds texture and matches the dots in the DSP.

I embossed the Very Vanilla envelope flap with the Layered Leaves embossing folder, and saved one of the Old Olive dragonflies for the inside, just for a little extra pizzazz.

Santa’s Sleigh with Gold and Glimmer

Santa’s Sleigh is just so pretty! I could see it in white against a Gold Foil circle for this week’s Global Design Project 106.

I began this project with a Thick Whisper White card base, topped with Crumb Cake cardstock that I embossed with the “Oh My Stars” embossing folder. I used the largest Layering Circles die to cut the Gold Foil circle, as seen in the sketch.

I cut Santa’s Sleigh from Thick Whisper White cardstock using two dies from that set. The intricacy of the sleigh amazes me, and it’s still a favorite.

Do you see the bow in the sketch? I used the smaller of the two bows in the  Pretty Pines die set to cut it from Gold Glimmer Paper. It really sparkles in person.

Last, but not least, the sentiment.  The Star of Light stamp set provided “Merry Christmas” in this beautiful font. And, it fit perfectly in the die cut from Bunch of Banners. I love it when that happens!

Just one question remains………..where’s Santa?

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Let me know when you find Santa.
