I’ve been in a whirlwind of card making, having several projects going at once. You know how it is, right?
I was cleaning up my work space, when Cat (Cat Punch), escaped my grasp, and ran outside. He loves playing hide-and-seek, especially in places like Rooted in Nature (Bundle of stamps and dies).

He was covered in leaves (Nature’s Poem DSP) when I found him. If he hadn’t been hiding behind the log, I would have overlooked him for sure! I can see why he was excited to play among these fun colors. They happen to be the same ones in this weeks Global Design Project challenge.
I can see that one large leaf is stamped in Pumpkin Pie, one in Rich Razzleberry, and two smaller leaves in Real Red. The log is Rich Razzleberry, as well as the layer beneath the leaf print. The card base must be Thick Whisper White to hold the weight of the log and that triple layered “fat” cat.

Cat is hidden so well, I think he must have been punched right out of the Designer Series Paper. Then, the log was stamped, and Cat climbed back into his hiding spot.
When I found him, I said “Hey friend, what are you doing there,” so that seemed like an appropriate sentiment (Itty Bitty Greetings). I noticed that many of the small greetings would fit on these leaves.
You’ll be happy to know, Cat is curled up where he belongs. Who knows what his next adventure will be.

The theme for this month is “encouragement.” I was to make a card for someone who I thought needed encouragement right now.
For June’s project, I wanted to work with something new from our 2018-2019 Stampin’ Up catalog. Not only that, I wanted to work with things from the top of my “A” list. I chose two new sets, along with my favorite Designer Specialty Paper. And, one, little, favorite item (actually three) from a carry-over set.
Serene Garden Scene Wood Textures Bird
This beautiful bird from the Serene Garden Scene Set was stamped in Basic Black ink on Wood Textures Designer Series Paper. The idea for a wood bird came to me, because my grandfather carved little birds from balsa wood. Then, my grandmother would paint them, and turn them into Christmas tree decorations. My grandparent’s names were Mimi and Archie, and I still feel their love running through my veins. As I was layering my bird for thickness, I thought of happy times with them.
My bird is flying by a window from the Stained Glass Die Set. I used a die to cut the window from Whisper White cardstock.
This bird is not without a purpose, carrying a “hello” sign (tied with a string) from the At Home Stamp and Die set. I’ve used these three items more than any other from this carry-over set.
Now, for my favorite Designer Series Paper, Share What You Love. Isn’t the print gorgeous? This DSP has such an appropriate name, because I’m sharing it with you, and I love it. I layered it on Whisper White (matching the window) and a Crumb Cake card base (matching the background color in the print).
I added a bit of Nature’s Twine in the color of Blackberry Bliss, decorated the envelope flap, and my card was complete.
Today, this card will deliver a cheery “hello” to a lady in a nursing home. She and my mother shared a room, and developed a friendship over the course of time. I hope this card will be a source of encouragement to her.

Cat Punch was begging to make another card. And, he thought it would be great fun to be in a shaker card with sequins flying around. Shaker cards aren’t really that hard to make, so I accommodated him. The hard part was photographing the card, because of the reflective Window Sheet.

We first selected the foreground paper from Share What You Love Specialty Designer Series Paper. Cat likes playing in grass, so this was perfect. And, it blended beautifully with Mint Macaron, which is the card base.
Whisper White was layered on the card base, and given the same rounded corners as the “grass” print. We did this with the new Detailed Trio Punch. It gives such nice, clean corners; it’s fast becoming a favorite.
Using the largest of the Layering Ovals Dies, I cut an oval in the “grass.” Then, I cut a piece of Window Sheet to size, and taped it to the back. Next, I cut a piece of Mint Macaron to size, and Cat (Basic Black cardstock) hopped on. I boxed him in with Foam Adhesive Strips, he meowed for lots of sequins, and I adhered the two pieces (Mint Macaron and “grass”) together.
He wanted to wish someone a happy birthday, and we found the sentiment in a stamp set he stares at a lot, Best Birds. “It’s a good day” fit within the smallest, round Stitched Shapes Die, which I stamped with Basic Black ink. “Happy Birthday,” from the same set, is on the inside. I was so busy shaking the card, I forgot to photograph it. oops!
I did remember to decorate the envelope flap, though, and used the Petal Pair Embossing Folder that looks like the “grass.” Don’t you think so?

Here I am, using the Rooted in Nature Stamp Set once again, for the CAS(E) this sketch challenge. The tree ring image is fabulous, and if I could make jewelry, I’d turn it into a necklace. But, a paper, hanging piece on a card will have to suffice.

Can you see why I thought of the tree ring for the prominent circle in the sketch?
I wanted to try a color other than brown, and the returning color, Mossy Meadow, was the answer. I have the Stampin’ Write Markers New Color Assortment, so I decided to use the “ink to stamp” technique. What technique is that? It’s simply coloring a red rubber stamp with a Stampin’ Write Marker, and stamping it on cardstock. Using this technique, gave the tree ring a nice, mottled look.
I played around with different greens for the background, and my choice was Tranquil Textures Designer Series Paper in the color of Soft Seafoam. I liked the contrast of light and dark green, sticking with a monochromatic theme.
After hand cutting the tree ring, it was ready to hang. With the Detailed Trio Punch, I punched a hole in each side of the tree ring. Then, I threaded Mint Macaron Nature’s Twine through the holes, fastening the ends with tape on the back of the layer. The tree ring is lifted by dimensionals, so it is secure. For even more dimension, I added Foam Adhesive Strips to the layer before placing it on the Soft Seafoam card base.
I used the Stamparatus to stamp the sentiment, in case it didn’t come out dark enough. But, it was good on the first attempt. As I was stamping the words “Be strong, Be happy, Be You,” the expression, “pearls of wisdom” crossed my mind. That’s why I thought to add the six small pearls.
My hanging tree ring needed some foliage, so I stamped two branches in Mint Macaron on Soft Seafoam cardstock, and cut them with their die from the Nature’s Roots Die Set. I tucked them under an edge, and my card was complete.

Hi there! Thank you for paying me a visit. This week’s challenge at Global Design Project is especially exciting, because we get to CASE Brian King’s project. Not only that, but the winner gets to be a guest designer at Global Design project for SIX months!
If you aren’t familiar with the term, “CASE,” it can have several different meanings. I like, “copy and selectively edit.” And, for Brian King, it would also mean “clean and simple.” Here is Brian’s project. See all the open space?
Coming up with unique designs for challenges is my favorite thing to do, so I couldn’t wait to get started. I decided to use the Cake Soiree Stamp Set and Sweet Cake Dies for this challenge.
A pink and green color combination is one of my favorites, so it was easy to copy Brian’s color scheme. I chose our new color, Petal Pink for the card base, and I framed Whisper White cardstock with Basic Black cardstock. Black really makes the colors pop, and Brian often uses this layering technique.
Cake Soiree birthday card
The Cake Soiree Stamp Set has the cutest flowers, leaves and sprigs, which I haven’t used nearly enough, so today I am featuring them! I stamped three pairs of leaves in Pear Pizzazz in the location of Brian’s bouquet. Then, I stamped two flowers in Flirty Flamingo and one in Grapefruit Grove.
The flower has a die in the Sweet Cake Die Set for cutting, making it simple to place them on dimensionals. I also die cut the four, white sprigs along the bottom, and glued them in place.
A pretty “Happy Birthday” is in the Cake Soiree Stamp Set, which I stamped it in Basic Black, just as Brian stamped his sentiment.
