I hope you all are having an enjoyable three day weekend. This Memorial Day holiday put me in the mood to make a sympathy card. I created this for those who have lost loved ones while serving our country.
Stained Glass Jar of Love in Serene Garden
When I started this design, the only direction I had was the Paper Players challenge sketch.
I’ve recently become fascinated with vellum, and I was experimenting with coloring the backside of a piece of Graceful Glass Designer Vellum. Stampin’ Blends are fun to use on vellum, if you don’t let some streaking bother you. The ink dries quickly, and when you turn it over, the streaks are barely visible. As I was coloring with Pool Party and Bermuda Bay, I thought of a stained glass jar. Stampin’ Up has the perfect stamp and die from Jar of Love for this to happen. A stained glass jar would be my “any shape” in the sketch.
I stamped the outside of the jar in Basic Black ink on solid vellum cardstock, and used its die for cutting. I used the “inside” die for cutting a section from the Graceful Glass Vellum piece I had been coloring. The neat thing about vellum is you can see through it, like you would real glass.
TIP: I used to worry about glue showing through vellum, but I’ve learned that using pin dots of glue along the black lines keeps it from showing.
For the rectangle behind the jar, I thought of Serene Garden. It has the same graceful lines, doesn’t it? I stamped the corner floral in Mint Macaron to go with the colors in the jar. The Serene Garden Die Set has a die that is a bit mystifying, and I decided to try it. I’m still not sure of all its uses, but I like the way it cut out some of the leaves. I trimmed this piece to size, and layered it on Mint Macaron, allowing the color to show through.
The white flower that I stamped in Basic Black ink is also from the Serene Garden Set. A line in the stained glass looks exactly likes the flower’s stem, so I placed my flower on top of this line! Had to laugh at my good fortune!
Here’s a photo of the dies used for cutting. As I’m looking at it, I realize the large, corner piece is for embossing, not cutting. This is the same image as the one I used for stamping in Mint Macaron.
The sentiment, “With love and sympathy,” is from the Itty Bitty Greetings Stamp Set, and cut with the Classic label Punch. This horizontal piece completes the sketch, and Mint Macaron DSP decorates the envelope.

That is one, long title! The name of this paper, Delightfully Detailed Laser-Cut Specialty Paper, is slightly intimidating, but seriously, do not let it scare you. It’s easier to work with than you might imagine. I’d been looking at this circular pattern since receiving it, wondering what colors I would add to it. Today’s challenge at Fab Friday gave me my answer.
I found cardstock scraps in the colors of Melon Mambo, Flirty Flamingo, and Powder Pink. I used two of the Layering Circles Dies and the 1/2″ Circle Punch to cut eight, pretty, pink circles.
As I was applying teeny tiny spots of glue to attach the circles, I was thinking of how I would explain it to you. I thought a picture of the backside would help.
The hardest part of the project was cutting the white cardstock for the back of the Laser-Cut piece. It had to fit within that tiny border, and difficult to measure. The easy solution would be to glue it directly to the card base, which is what I’ll do next time.
I wanted a Basic Black sentiment in the upper right corner, and found “Thank You” in the Hand Delivered Stamp Set. It was the right meaning and size in a pretty font. I used the Stamparatus for stamping, because I was not wanting to mess it up at this point.

Most guys love being out in nature, so Stampin’ Up’s Nature’s Poem Suite makes perfect cards for them. Today’s birthday card features a new color, Grapefruit Grove, with an old favorite, Soft Suede. I first selected the fabulous, Soft Suede, leaf print, from Nature’s Poem Designer Series Paper. This dictated the rest of my color choices. Soft Suede would be the card base, layered with Grapefruit Grove Nature’s Poem DSP, layered with Crumb Cake card stock, with the Soft Suede leaf print on top.

The challenge at CAS(E) this sketch gave me the lay-out for my card.
I haven’t made an “eclipse” card for a while, so I decided to use “celebrate” from the Celebrate You Die Set to cut the word from the leaf print. After cutting four more from Crumb Cake card stock, I layered the word, and glued it into the hole from which it came. Isn’t it fun to see how the print is uninterrupted, and the word is somewhat obscured?
The Rooted in Nature Bundle has a stamp with three leaves, like the one in the print, so I HAD to use it. I stamped three, using Crumb Cake Ink and Vellum cardstock. I was so happy there was a die to cut them out perfectly. Following the design of CAS(E) this sketch, I placed the leaves on Glue Dots beneath “celebrate.” Additional horizontal lines were added with Nature’s Twine in the colors of Crumb Cake and Grapefruit Grove. I love how Stampin’ Up! coordinates everything! The Nature’s Twine was attached with Tear Tape, and fringed on the ends.
For the inside sentiment, I stamped Happy Birthday from the Lemon Zest Stamp Set, and added a leaf to carry out the theme. Can you see how the die cuts out the stamped leaves? Grapefruit Grove DSP decorates the envelope flap.

The Share What You Love Specialty DSP is unusual and classy. Are you ready for a new color combination? I was surprised by the beauty of Petal Pink, So Saffron and Crumb Cake. It’s probably enhanced by the pearlized finish of the paper. Aren’t the colors yummy?
Share What You Love with Just a Note
Color wasn’t the first decision, however, it was the sentiment. I found “just a note…” in the Better Together Stamp Set, and used a Bunch of Banners die for cutting. I knew I wanted to say this, because of the Global Design Project.
Crumb Cake is a neutral color that goes with everything, and I chose it for the card base. Next, a layer of Petal Pink cardstock, followed by So Saffron DSP, followed by Sheet Music. I fussy cut the Petal Pink flowers from another sheet of the Share What You Love DSP.
Since the Share What You Love Specialty Paper has sheen with its pearlized finish, I wanted to make the sheet music sparkle also. I first covered the Sheet Music background stamp in Versamark. It works like a regular ink pad, but it’s clear. Then, I poured Gold Embossing Powder over it, tapping off the excess, and shot it with the Heat Tool until it began to shine. Once it shines, you know it is set.
I layered my flowers and sentiment using dimensionals, and added a bow of Lace Trim Ribbon with a Glue Dot. It’s so much fun using the new colors, and I can tell that Petal Pink is going to be a favorite of mine.

Yesterday was my birthday, marking the number of days I’ve been on this earth. It was also the first anniversary of my blog, Aromas and Art. I just looked, and I’ve published 299 posts. Whew, that’s a lot! I’m so thankful to you, my readers and followers, because it thrills me to be able to share with you. As long as you keep visiting, I’ll keep it up on my end.

Today’s post is from the Serene Garden Bundle. I fell in love with this set when I first saw it in the new catalog, page 166. I’ve already used it for two Blog Hops that will be coming up in June, and todays project is for the Paper Players challenge. The challenge this week is for the project to be “clean & simple” with “blooms.” Clean & simple means lots of open space with minimal layers and embellishment. And, blooms means flowers, of course.
I couldn’t wait to use the graceful bloom from the Serene Garden Stamp Set. The flower and stem are one stamp, which I stamped in Versamark, then stamped three times on Thick Whisper White cardstock. Then, I sprinkled White Embossing Powder over the images, and let the heat tool do its work.

The three ink colors I used for the flowers are Flirty Flamingo, Rich Razzleberry and Daffodil Delight. The white embossed lines provided the guide for my Aqua Painter. TIP: Be careful with the amount of water on this Thick WW cardstock. Probably should use Shimmery White, which reacts better to water.
Here you can see the nice, shiny lines of the heat embossing. Keeping my card “clean and simple,” I chose a small sentiment from Itty Bitty Greetings, and stamped it in Basic Black. I used the Stamparatus to ensure it stamped perfectly.
The Serene Garden Die Set has several dies for embossing. Stampin’ Up! also has new Big Shot Embossing Mats, which I wanted to try. It takes some experimenting to find the right combo, but I really like the results on this envelope flap.
I like to think there is a little prayer tucked inside each blossom, floating its way to you.

The Nature’s Poem Suite is on Pages 142-144 in the new Stampin’ Up Catalog. It was available on Pre-Order, and the first one that grabbed my attention. Wood, trees and leaves are gorgeous, and appreciated by women and men. My husband is my “male card appreciation barometer,” and when showing him this card, he said, “I like that tree.”
Nature’s Poem Suite Sneak Peek
I decided to feature this fabulous tree by stamping it with Gold Embossing Powder. I first stamped Versamark on Crumb Cake cardstock, and sprinkled it with gold powder. Then, I used the Heat Tool to melt the powder, making the tree come to life. The die for cutting the tree is in the Nature’s Roots Die Set (part of the bundle). I cut several, gluing them together for thickness.
Wood Textures Designer Series Paper is what I chose as a background for the tree. TGIF is having a challenge this week with “wood” as the inspiration. I’m all about “wood,” so this was an easy choice.
The Layering Squares Die Set enabled me to cut a frame for the tree. Again, I cut several for thickness, and backed it with a piece of Nature’s Poem DSP. This DSP is also the one that is layered on the Crumb Cake card base, serving as a border. The color is Black Berry Bliss, one I had heard much about from demonstrators who missed it since its retirement. It came out of retirement, and is once again available. Isn’t it a pretty purple?
Blackberry Bliss also shows up in four vertical strands of Nature’s Twine, attached with a strip of Tear Tape.
The Sentiment, “You Are Wonderful,” is in the Rooted in Nature Stamp Set, and stamped with Fresh Fig Ink.
