Watercolor Inspiration

I was excited to get started on today’s card with two challenges in mind.

You inspire me

The first thing I did was cut a 4″ X 1 1/2″ piece of Watercolor Paper. Then, I used three ink colors (Balmy Blue, Highland Heather, and Flirty Flamingo) with my Aqua Painter to paint the paper.

TIP: I started on the left side and painted across, cleaning my brush between colors, so I wouldn’t contaminate my ink pads.

I cut the Watercolor Paper larger than I needed, and glued it to a 4″ X 5 1/4″ Whisper White layer. I did this so the Stitched Rectangles Die would give a nice, even border. This is the second to largest die.

Next, I cut a Sweet Silhouettes tree branch from Watercolor Paper, and used the same painting method as the strip. TIP: I made sure the cut was straight, so the tree would be flush to the strip.

The sentiment, “You inspire me” is from the Silhouette Scenes Stamp Set, stamped in Memento Black Ink, and cut with an Ornate Frames Die.

Notice how the colors match the Woven Threads Sequins perfectly. These things make me very happy!

I was inspired by two challenges: Fusion (sketch and photo)

And, TGIF (watercolor)

Pressed Petals Birthday Card

I began today’s birthday card with some of my favorite, retiring, designer paper, Pressed Petals. This paper blends beautifully with Very Vanilla, so that’s what I chose for the card base.

Incidentally, the music paper I used for photographing is one of the Pressed Petals designs.

Pressed Petals on Burlap

I layered the Thick Very Vanilla card base with paper that looks just like burlap, cut with an Ornate Layers Die.

If you love this paper as much as I do, order it now while it’s still available. You can click on the picture in my Product List below to see all of the designs in the pack. It has 24 sheets, twice as many as the regular amount of 12.

Next, I used a Layering Squares Die to cut a square of Very Vanilla Cardstock, embossed with the Ornate Floral Embossing Folder.  This embossing folder is my Host Code gift for the month of May. Read below to see how you can make it yours.

To add a”lacey” feel to the square, I used an Ornate Frames Die, cut from Mossy Meadow Cardstock. Then, I cut the shape in half, and glued the halves to the top and bottom of the square.

For additional “real” lace, I used Scalloped Lace Trim, which is attached with tiny dots of Liquid Glue.

I layered the square with a rectangle of Pressed Petals DSP, cut with a Stitched Rectangles Die.

The sentiment, “Happy Birthday,” is from the Special Someone Stamp Set, stamped in Mossy Meadow Ink, and cut with an Ornate Frames Die.

My layout was inspired by TGIF.

Ornate Frames and Flowers

Don’t these flowers look like they were watercolored? They were simply stamped, using a stamp from the Butterfly Wishes Stamp Set!

By Su Mohr for TGIF; Click READ or VISIT to go to my blog for details! Featuring: Butterfly Wishes Stamp Set, Positive Thoughts Stamp Set, Ornate Frames Dies, Ornate Layers Dies, Frosted Bouquet Dies, Leaf Punch, Painted Harvest Stamp Set; #ornateframes #ornatelayers #butterflywishes #friendshipcards #watercoloroncards #watercoloring #flowersoncards #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #cardmaking #papercrafting #colorcombos #cardchallenges

Ornate Frames & Flowers

I began with a Thick Whisper White card base, topped with Whisper White Cardstock that I cut with an Ornate Layers Die.

The flowers were stamped in Daffodil Delight and Calypso Coral Inks. My flowers needed some foliage, so I remembered leaves from the Painted Harvest Stamp Set that had the same watercolored appearance. I stamped the leaves in Coastal Cabana Ink, and cut them with their matching Leaf Punch.

I also added some Baby’s Breath, cut with a Frosted Bouquet Die from Thick Whisper White Cardstock. The First Frost Stamp Set and Frosted Bouquet Dies have been a favorite of mine. They are retiring, so get them now, while you can.

The sentiment, “Hugs Prayers Love,” is from the Positive Thoughts Stamp Set, stamped in Coastal Cabana Ink, and cut with an Ornate Frames Die. I glued the leaves to the back of the sentiment, before adhering it with Dimensionals.

TIP: Each leaf is on a Mini-Dimensional for support.

I was inspired by the colors at TGIF.

Happy B*Day Card

Every day is someone’s birthday, and who doesn’t love receiving a handmade birthday card?

Since my birthday is in May, I edited the bottom of this post to include my exciting news for the month of May.

By Su Mohr for Fab Fri and TGIF; Click READ or VISIT to go to my blog for details! Featuring: Hand-Lettered Prose Dies, Ornate Layers Dies, Stitched So Sweetly Dies, Subtle Textured embossing, Woven Threads Sequins; #birthdaycards #handlettered #paperwords #happyb.day ##handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #cardmaking #papercrafting #lastchance #retiringproducts #stampinup #cardchallenges #colorcombos #cardthemes

Happy b*day

Using die-cut letters is so much fun, and these have been a favorite from the Hand-Lettered Prose die set. The “dot” is a Bouquet Bunches Die. Both sets are two of my favorite “Last-Chance” products, so order soon if you HAVE to have them! Clicking on the pictures in my Product List will take you to them.

I cut the letters from scraps of Designer Paper, and double layered them for thickness. I used matching colors of cardstock for layering, and you’ll find the four colors named in my Product List. Aren’t they pretty together?

The background is Whisper White Cardstock, cut with an Ornate Layers Die, and embossed with the Subtle Textured Embossing Folder.

“Happy” is from the Well Said Stamp Set, stamped in Memento Black Ink, and cut with a Stitched So Sweetly Die.

Finally, I HAD to add some sequins, and the Woven Threads Sequins matched the colors perfectly!

Today’s theme was inspired by TGIF.

And, the colors are from Fab Friday.

Happy Birthday Bubbles

The So Very Vellum is so very pretty, and fun to use. It looks like bubbles on this birthday card, don’t you think?

By Su Mohr for TGIG; Click READ or VISIT to go to my blog for details! Featuring: So Very Vellum DSP, Layering Circles Dies, Stitched Rectangles Dies, Timeless Tulip Stamp Set, Corrugated embossing; #birthdaycards #vellumoncards #corrugatedembossing #pastelcolors #colorcombos #bubbles #stampinup #2020stampinup #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #cardmaking #papercrafting

Birthday Bubbles

I first cut the three colors of vellum with two Layering Circles Dies. Then, I cut an equal amount of Whisper White Cardstock for backing.

TIP: I discovered, if you put tiny dots of glue behind the dots, it doesn’t show at all.

I had fun embossing (Corrugated Embossing Folder) and distressing (used my fingernail) the background, which I glued to a Thick Whisper White card base.

I placed the bubbles and sentiment on Stampin’ Dimensionals, which enhanced the embossed dimension. This card just might fly away!

“Happy Birthday” is from the Timeless Tulips Stamp Set, stamped in Memento Black Ink, and cut with the smallest Stitched Rectangles Dies.

No worries, if you don’t have the So Very Vellum DSP. I bet you can come up with equally stunning paper for this design.

I was inspired by TGIF.

I’m also sharing with Seize the Birthday’s Spring Fling.

The Coastal Weave Embossing Folder is my Host Code gift for April. When you place a $50.00 minimum order in April, I will send you the embossing folder in May. Don’t forget to type my Host Code  JQT3MUZN  in the box provided.

Ornate Garden Rainbow With Retiring Colors

Everyone loves rainbows, and Stampin’ Up’s, retiring, 2018-2020 In Colors, provided the perfect color pallete.

By Su Mohr for TGIF; Click READ or VISIT to go to my blog for details! Featuring: 2018-2020 In Colors, Ornate Layers Dies, Ornate Borders Dies, Well Written Dies, Sponge Daubers, Black Foil; #rainbows #rainbowsoncards #ornategarden #ornatelayers #ornateborders #wellwritten #spongedaubers #incolors #hanmadecards #handcrafted #diy #cardmaking #papercrafting #cardchallenges

Retiring Rainbow

I turned the Whisper White Cardstock into a rainbow using Sponge Daubers with the five, retiring, In Colors of Ink. From Left to right: Lovely Lipstick, Grapefruit Grove, Pineapple Punch, Call Me Clover, and Blueberry Bushel.

Once my rainbow was created, I used an Ornate Layers Die to cut the frame. Isn’t it pretty? Then, I layered this on a Thick Whisper White card base.

Next, I used a floral, Ornate Borders Die to cut the diagonal strip from Whisper White Cardstock. And, I added three flowers, cut with dies that also come in the set.

The sentiment, “thanks,” is from Well Written Dies, cut from Black Foil. The shiny, black, sentiment really makes the colors pop, don’t you think?

My rainbow inspiration was from TGIF.

The official retirement date for the In Colors is June 3, 2020, but they typically sell out sooner. Stock up on these colors now, before it’s too late.

Clicking on the pictures in my Product List takes you to my store, where you can put the items in your shopping cart. How handy is that!

Thanks so much for visiting me today! The Cardstock in these colors will be retiring also, so if you’d like to see my design using these colors, come back tomorrow.

The Coastal Weave Embossing Folder is my Host Code gift for April. When you place a $50.00 minimum order in April, I will send you the embossing folder in May. Don’t forget to type my Host Code ( JQT3MUZN ) in the box provided.
