Are you missing hugs as much as I am? I know many of you are, so I wanted to create a card to send “paper hugs.” I immediately heard a voice coming from one of my stamp sets, “me, me, I give the best hugs of all.” It didn’t take long to discover it was that adorable Rex from the Dino Days Stamp Set. His arms are short, but I have to admit, he gives great hugs.

Paper Hugs
First, I stamped Rex, and his spiny back, in Mossy Meadow Ink on Whisper White Cardstock, and used the Dino Dies for cutting. He said I should glue the spines to his back, because it added character, and he promised not to hurt anyone.

Rex thought wood texture would be a good background, so we chose my favorite from In Good Taste Designer Paper, cutting it to 4″ X 5 1/4″. Plus, we cut a circle from the center, using a Layering Circles Die. We also cut a scalloped circle from Thick Whisper White Cardstock, glued the two together, and placed it on Dimensionals. Rex planned on being featured in the circle, and said the white scalloped edge brought out the color in his eyes. I tried not to laugh, as I layered the wood texture on a Gray Granite card base, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″.

Now for the Playful Alphabet letters. We explored several options of designer paper, but the number one favorite was the tiny gingham from Heartwarming Hugs. I cut a 1″ strip of the designer paper, and attached it to a 1″ strip of a Foam Adhesive Sheet. After placing the letter dies on the strip, I ran it through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine, one time the normal way, and one time upside down. This insures a good cut, so the letters are easy to remove. I took off the backing, placing “paper” on the top of the circle, and “hugs” on the bottom.
Rex likes his card so much, he said he wanted me to keep it. I’ll have to think about that.
