Butterflies & Flowers Layering Decorative Masks

Stenciling is so much fun! For my first card in February, I used the Butterflies & Flowers Layering Decorative Masks. That’s a mouthful! But, it’s a great product, and the one I chose to be my Host Code Gift for the month of February. You can see the details below.

Masked Butterfly

I began by attaching the floral patterned mask to the “open” butterfly mask, with Painters Tape, on top of Basic White Cardstock, 4″ X 4″. Then, using Sponge Daubers, I colored the butterfly with three colors of ink: Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight, and Mango Melody. I took precaution by putting tape over the mask designs, close to my butterfly, that I didn’t want to daub on.

Next, I stamped “Happy Birthday” from the Special Moments Stamp Set, one of the FREE Sale-a-bration items with a qualifying purchase. You can see all 21 sentiments in my Product List. Because I wanted to make sure the sentiment stamped perfectly, I used the Stamparatus.

To make the bright colors in the butterfly pop, I added a black and white border, using Pattern Party Designer Paper, 4 1/8″ X 4 1/8″. The layers were glued together on a Thick Basic White card base, 4 1/4″ X 4 1/4″. I made a square card a few days ago, and thought this was a good shape for the butterfly.

This 4 1/4″ X 4 1/4″ square card fits in our Medium Envelopes, even though there’s some room left over. While I was thinking about it, I decorated the flap of an envelope with Flowering Fields Designer Paper. It was easy to cut a 5 3/4″ X 2 3/8″ piece of designer paper, glue it to the envelope flap, and trim the excess, using the flap as a template. You can see the envelope in the first photo.

I was inspired by the Paper Players. Can you see I played the bottom row across?

Paradise Palms for Global Design Project 328

For this week’s Global Design Project, we get to CASE Janneke De Jong. You can see her beautiful card below, and clicking on it will take you to our gallery where you can hang your CASE of her card.

I began with a Thick Basic White card base, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″. This was layered with In Color Designer Paper in Soft Succulent, cut with the largest Stitched Rectangles Die.

By Su Mohr for GDP 328; Click aromasandart.com to go to my website for details! Featuring: Paradise Palms Stamp Set, Palm Dies, Stitched Rectangles Dies, Iridescent Rhinestones, Ombre Gift Bags; #paradisepalms #palmdies #palmtrees #retirementcards #ombregiftbags #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #cardmaking #papercrafting #crafts #gdp328 #caseing #case #sumohr #aromasandart.com/shop #stamping #stampinup

Paradise Palms

Next, I cut basic White Cardstock with the second largest Stitched Rectangles Die. Then, I used a Paradise Palms Stamp to stamp Fresh Freesia Ink seven times. This is a great stamp, because it can be mountains, clouds, or water. The three palm trees, also a Paradise Palms Stamp, were stamped in Gorgeous Grape Ink.

The grass was made with a Palm Die and an Ombre Gift Bag in Soft Succulent. I chose the gift bag paper, rather than cardstock, to give the grass a lighter feel, and color shading.

The Paradise Palms Stamp Set and Palm Dies are in my Product List below. They can be purchased separately, or in a bundle for a 10% savings.

After gluing the grass, I stamped “Retirement wishes” in Memento Black Ink, and added splatter with a Highland Heather Stampin’ Blend. I did this by flicking the brush end against the cap onto the paper. This was really fun, but to insure I didn’t make a mess, it was done in my laundry room sink.

Prior to the final step of embellishing my card with Iridescent Rhinestones, I attached the top layer with Dimensionals.

Here is Janneke’ card. Can you see how I cased it?

Ladybug on a Square Card

It was time to make a square card, and the cute ladybug would be the perfect focal point. I used the Ladybug Builder Punch to cut her body from Basic Black Cardstock, and her wings from Flowering Fields Designer Paper. Her wings were attached with glue at the neck and Mini Dimensionals to let them fly.

By Su Mohr for FMS; Click aromasandart.com to go to my website for details! Featurinf: Ladybug Builder Punch, Flowering Fields DSP, Bouquet Of Love Dies, Daffodil Afternoon DSP, Hello Ladybug Stamp Set, Classic Matte Dots; #ladybugpunch #ladybugs #ladybugcards #daffodilafternoonpaper #squarecards #cardsketches #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #cardmaking #papercrafting #sumohr #aromasandart.com/shop #stamping #stampinup

Square Ladybug Card

Next, I made her heart-shaped leaf with a Bouquet Of Love Die, also cut from Flowering Fields Designer Paper.  The heart was layered with cardstock for thickness, and placed on Dimensionals, ready for the ladybug to munch.

The strip of paper behind the heart is Daffodil Afternoon Designer Paper, cut with an Ornate Layers Die. This paper is one of the Sale-a-bration items you can earn for FREE. Another pattern of the paper is being used for photographing the card. Isn’t it pretty? You can see all of the patterns in my Product List below.

The background is Very Vanilla Cardstock, 4″ X 4″, cut to fit my square card. The card base is Old Olive Cardstock, 8 1/2 ” by 4 1/4″, folded at 4 1/4″. This size is great, because it fits our Medium Envelope.

“You can bug me any time” is from the Hello Ladybug Stamp Set, stamped in Memento Black Ink, and cut with a Beautiful Trees Die. The ladybug’s trail is from the Garden Wishes Stamp Set, stamped in Memento Black Ink.

I completed my square card with three black, Classic Matte Dots.

I was inspired by Freshly Made Sketches.

Easter Friends Presents Peep the Chick

As soon as Peep, from the Easter Friends Stamp Set, heard that Hop Hop, the bunny, was featured on a card, she said it was her turn. And, she had the grand idea of appearing through a “peep” hole.  She made me a little crazy, because she was asking for things from a bunch of different sets.

First, Peep said you would want to know how she came to life. She was stamped in Mango Melody Ink, colored with a Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blend, cut free from Basic White Cardstock, and placed on Dimensionals.

By Su Mohr for Fusion; Click aromasandart.com to go to my website for details! Featuring: Easter Friends Stamp Set, Layering Circles Dies, Horizon Dies, Greenery Embossing Folder, Scalloped Contours Dies; #easterfriends #eastercards #chicksoncards #funfolds #peephole #sunshineandrainbows #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #cardmaking #papercrafting #sumohr #aromasandart.com/shop #layeringcircles #greeneryembossing #stampinup #stamping

Peep

Now that Peep was alive, I had to figure out how to make Peep’s peep hole. Beginning with a Thick Basic White card base, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″, I layered it with Basic White Cardstock, 4″ X 5 1/4″. Then, I used a Layering Circles Die to cut a 1 5/8″ circle through the layer and card base.

Once the hole was there, I embossed a portion of the card front by running the entire card base through the Stamp n’ Cut and Emboss Machine with a Greenery Embossing Folder.

Next, I fussy cut pretty clouds from the Sale-a-bration, Sunshine & Rainbows Designer Paper, and attached them to the card front; one glued flat, and two on Dimensionals. There is a Cloud Punch for cutting the clouds, but a tool I don’t have.

Peep said she wanted some Granny Apple Green grass, which we made using a Horizon Die and another pattern of Sunshine & Rainbows DSP. We extended the grass around her peep hole by using the same 1 5/8″ plain circle with the scalloped circle a size larger.

We found the small “hello” in the Sweet As A Peach Stamp Set, stamped it in Memento Black Ink, and used the small Ranunculus Die for cutting. After attaching it with Dimensionals, Peep wanted to add an Artistry Blooms Sequin to match the blue clouds.

Whew! Now, for the inside. After using the largest Scalloped Contours Die to cut a layer of Basic White Cardstock, I stamped the sentiment in Memento Black Ink. “Happy Easter” is from the Easter Friends Stamp Set, and Peep said I HAD to use it.

Finally Peep jumped on the card, very delighted that she can be seen through her peep hole. Hop Hop thought Peep did a great job.

Peep said the Fusion sketch gave her the idea of a peep hole.

Meet the Bunny Named “Hop Hop”

Chicks go “peep peep,” ducks go “quack, quack” and bunnies go “hop hop.” That’s what my daughter said when she was learning to talk, so, this bunny’s name is Hop Hop.

Now, I must tell you that Hop Hop is not happy with me. Since she was my favorite thing in the entire catalog, she thinks I waited entirely too long for her to appear on a card. I tried to explain that her set is Easter Friends, and I was working on Valentine cards. But, she said she was a year-round bunny, and happy to show me that she would make a wonderful Valentine card.

She chose Memento Black Ink for her stamping debut, but stressed that she was cute in ALL colors.

While sitting on the shelf, Hop Hop decided she wanted to be framed with Pattern Party Designer Paper, cut with the large Eden Die. She thought this paper was perfect, because it was pink for Valentine’s Day, and an animal print. To fill in the background we used Sale-a-bration, Simply Marbleous Designer Paper in pink.

The dotted paper beneath the frame is also Pattern Party DSP, 4″ X 5 1/4″, glued to a Thick White card base, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″.

Hop Hop

For the last details, Hop Hop said she was very huggable, and wanted to hold a heart from the Sweet Talk Designer Paper that says, “hug me.” She even told me how to cut it just the right size for her to hold.

And, in case someone wouldn’t recognize this as a Valentine card, she said I should stamp “Happy Valentine’s Day” (Sweet Conversations Stamp Set) in Memento Black Ink on Basic White Cardstock, and use an Eden Die for cutting. Plus, this would give her an excellent place to stand.

At the last minute, Hop Hop wanted to add a bow of black & white, Playful Pets Trim. I’m not sure if it was because of the name, or the color. She does like her “playful” friends, and you will meet Peep tomorrow, and Quack in the future.

New Horizons Sympathy Card

It’s nice to have sympathy cards on hand, and the New Horizons Designer Paper is perfect for these occasions. Today’s card was especially easy to make. I chose one of the beautiful scenes, and cut the 6X6 designer paper with the largest Ornate Layers Die. It reminds me of Lake Arrowhead, but could be anywhere your imagination takes you.

By Su Mohr for PP; Click aromasandart.com to go to my website for details! Featuring: New Horizons DSP, Ornate Layers Dies, Tasteful Textile Embossing Folder, Special Moments Stamp Set, Epoxy tear drops; #sympathycards #newhorizons #tastefultextile #ornatelayersdies #specialmoments #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #cardmaking #papercrafting #sumohr #aromasandart.com/shop #stamping #stampinup #sale-a-bration

Sympathy Lake

Next, I added texture with the Tasteful Textile Embossing Folder. Now it really looks like watercolor on a canvas.

I usually stamp the sentiment before embossing, but I got ahead of myself, and stamped after embossing. Using the Stamparatus, I was able to get a nice, dark, sentiment with Memento Black Ink. “With Sympathy” is from the Sale-a-bration, Special Moments Stamp Set; a great set with 21 stamps. With a $100 purchase, it can be yours for FREE!

After stamping, I glued my watercolored scene to a Basic Gray card base, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″.

For a final touch, I added three, Epoxy tear drops.

I was inspired by the Paper Players.
