Colorful Sunflowers

Today’s Step-by-Step Instructions:

Cut Thick Whisper White Cardstock to 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, fold in the middle at 4 1/4″ to make your card base.

Cut regular weight, Whisper White Cardstock to 4″ X 5 1/4″.

The sentiment, “Thanks A Bunch,”  is from the Celebrate Sunflowers Stamp Set, stamped in Bermuda Bay Ink. You will stamp it in the middle of the layer, but wait until you complete the flowers to make sure it isn’t hidden by their petals.

Stamp one sunflower in Magenta Madness Ink, and one in Gorgeous Grape Ink, on Shimmery White Cardstock. Use the Water Painter tool (medium brush) to watercolor the flowers.

How? Dip the brush on the ink pad, then squeeze the water painter over scratch paper until water fills the brush. Swipe it across the scratch paper to see the color you will get, paint away, and repeat.

I fussy cut the flowers to eliminate the white border, but there is a die for cutting, if you prefer. Plus, you could paint beyond the outline, so the border would be colored. Or, you could cut first, then paint. Lots of options.

Use the outline die (in the first photo) to cut two sunflowers from Whisper White Cardstock. Attach them to the watercolored flowers with glue, just around the circular portion, leaving the petals free.

Glue the flowers in each corner of the layer, and trim the overhang with Paper Snips. I applied glue (on the back of the flowers) along the corner to the end of the circle, leaving the petals free, so they could be lifted.

Stamp the three leaves in Bermuda Bay Ink, cut with their die, and attach. I glued two flat, and raised one on Dimensionals.

I was inspired by two challenges. My colors are from TGIF.

And, my layout is from CAS(E) this sketch.

Poppy Moments for Global Design Project 253

The Poppy Moments Dies are a favorite of mine. See how the “peek-a-boo” poppies allow the impression from the Stitched Leaves Die to show? Keep reading for instructions.

Place the Stitched Leaves Die (pictured above) on the left side of the layer, and run it through the die cutting machine as you would a regular die. It will leave this debossed  impression. Cool, huh?

The sentiment is from the Positive Thoughts Stamp Set. Stamp “Hugs Prayers Love” in Memento Black Ink, and glue the layer to the card base.

Now, for my favorite Poppy Moments flowers.

Color a piece of Whisper White Cardstock with Sponge Daubers and three colors of ink: Calypso Coral, Bumblebee, and Granny Apple Green. Then, use the die (pictured above) to cut two flowers, and attach with Dimensionals.

I used a stamp from Textured Essentials for the center of the flowers. Stamp it in Memento Black Ink and use the larger, stamen, Poppy Moments Die for cutting.

Use the smaller, stamen die to cut from Basic Black Cardstock, glue the two together, and glue to the center of the flowers.

Complete the card with a few sequins.

Now that your creative juices are flowing, come join us at Global Design Project, using this weeks colors. We’d love to see your entries on our gallery wall!

Anniversary for the Kre8tors Blog Hop

This month’s theme for the Kre8tor’s Blog Hop is “anniversary.” I thought it would be fun to use Stampin’ Up’s! Nothing’s Better Than Stamp Set to create my anniversary card. Most husbands would consider being loved more than chocolate a huge compliment. Don’t you think? You can follow along for instructions, and find my supplies in the Product List below.

By Su Mohr for Kre8tors Blog Hop; Click READ or VISIT to go to my blog for details! Featuring: Nothing's Better Than Stamp Set, Love You More Than Dies, Be Mine Stitched Dies; #anniversarycards #chocolate #loveyoumorethanchocolate #hearts #heartsoncards #nothing'sbetterthan #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #cardmaking #papercrafting #bloghops

More Than Chocolate

Instructions

Cut Crumb Cake Cardstock, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, and fold at 4 1/4″ to make your card base.

Use the second largest, Stitched Rectangles Die, to cut a layer of Whisper White Cardstock, and glue it to the middle of the card base.

Use the “Love You More Than” die to cut the words from Early Espresso Cardstock.  If you want to emphasize the “you,” cut the words a second time from Real Red Cardstock. The die cuts the four words together, but they are not attached.

Cut a section from the Foam Adhesive Sheet, 1″ X 3″, and adhere a piece of 1″ X 3″ Early Espresso Cardstock to one side. Place the “chocolate” on top, and run it through your die cutting machine. Turn it over, and run it through a second time to get a good cut.

Use the candy outline stamp, from the Nothing’s Better Than Stamp Set, and stamp it in Early Espresso Ink on Whisper White Cardstock. Stamp it in rows, enough to fill the heart. The cardstock should be 3″ X 4″ to accommodate the heart, or you can cut the heart first, and then stamp on it. Use the solid stamp to fill in the candy with Early Espresso Ink and Soft Suede Ink, both “stamped off” to be a shade lighter.

I used the heart from the Be Mine Stitched Die Set for cutting, but you could use a different heart, that’s approximately the same size.

Once your heart is glued in place, you can glue the words “Love you more than,” and attach “chocolate.”

Your anniversary card is sure to bring a smile, especially if he gives YOU chocolate!

Highland Heather Wreath and Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine

I will always remember this wreath card, because it’s the first one I made with our NEW Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine.

By Su Mohr; Click READ or VISIT to go to my blog for details! Featuring: Wreath Builder Dies, Ornate Thanks Stamp Set, Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon, In Good Taste Designer Paper; #wreaths #wreathsoncards #stampincutembossmachine #diecuttingmachine #embossingmachine #friendshipcards #handmadecards#handcrafted #diy #cardmaking #cardinstruction #papercrafting

Highland Heather Wreath

As a demonstrator, I was able to pre-order the machine August 4th, and who was I to turn down this opportunity! I was amazed when I received notice it was shipped on the 5th, and totally delighted when it arrived on the 6th. I quickly attached the handle, and then stared at it for a while. LOL. Isn’t it beautiful? I guess you have to be a card maker to fully appreciate it, but it’s a tool I can’t live without. The machine I’ve been using is similar, but it’s black, and old, and not rolling smoothly.

Just look at this beauty! Customers will be able to order it September 1st, so put it on your wish list. If you want it NOW, why not put it in your Starter Kit TODAY, and get free shipping? Contact me, [email protected].

I was anxious to see how it performed, compared to my old machine, and I’m delighted to report it is greatly improved. I decided that the first dies to roll through my machine would be two Wreath Builder Dies. I cut the first one from Highland Heather Cardstock, and with a name like that, I HAD to make a Highland Heather Wreath. Right?  I used Mossy Meadow Cardstock for the second die, and both came out clean with one, smooth, run through the machine. I’ve been in the habit of going back and forth several times, and adding shims, to get a clean cut.

See the numbered plates to the left of the machine? To cut with the dies, you first place #1 plate on the machine’s platform, followed by #2 plate, and one of the #3 plates. Then, you place the paper, next the die, and finally the second #3 plate. Now, you are ready to turn the handle, and watch it come out the other side! If you haven’t done this before, you are in for a treat, especially with this new machine. I’m warning you though, it’s addictive!

I kept today’s card very simple, gluing the wreath to wood from In Good Taste Designer Paper, 3 3/4″ X 5″. The wood is on a Gray Granite card base, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded in the middle at 4 1/4″.

The bow was made with Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon, which I colored with a Highland Heather Stampin’ Blend. It’s so fun to have matching ribbon, and it’s easy with the Blends!

The sentiment, “You made my day!” is from the Ornate Thanks Stamp Set. I stamped it in VersaMark, sprinkled with White Embossing Powder, and set it with the Heat Tool. Then, I used my Paper Snips to cut the sentiment by hand, and glued it across the wreath.

This card doesn’t include dry embossing, but I want you to know that I tried it with the new machine, and the recommended sandwiching worked perfectly. I may be giving up my shims!

Stella the Sea Turtle

The focal point of this card was planned to be the sweet bird from the Birds & Branches Stamp Set, but I was interrupted by the UPS truck. So, I immediately opened my Stampin’ Up! box, and there I found a pack of Whale Of A Time Designer Paper. This adorable sea turtle popped out and said “me, me, me!”

By Su Mohr for FMS; Click READ or VISIT to go to my blog for details! Featuring: Whale Of A Time Designer Paper, Forever Greenery Designer Paper, Ornate Layers Dies, Layering Squares Dies; #whaleofatime #turtles #turtlesoncards #specialsomeone #ornatelayers #forevergreenery #friendshipcards #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #cardmaking #papercrafting #ocean #sealife #seaturtles

Stella

My layout was from Freshly Made Sketches, along with the idea to use stripes.

Prior to the sea turtle’s arrival, I used an Ornate Layers Die to cut the stripes from Forever Greenery Designer Paper, which I glued to a Pretty Peacock card base; very simple without even a layer.

I used  a Layering Squares Die for cutting a scalloped square from Whisper White Cardstock. After stamping the bird in Pretty Peacock Ink, I was deciding on her background when the UPS truck arrived. My dog is very good about letting me know when this happens. So, to continue, the sea turtle said her name was Stella, which she said would make a good story, and that the stripe paper would add to her cuteness. How could I argue with that? Setting the bird aside, she promised to stay still, while I cut her from the paper with my Paper Snips.

Stella told me her favorite thing to do was ride ocean waves, and we found the perfect paper for her background, easily cut with a Layering Squares Die.

Stella wanted this card to go to a “very special someone” who loves sea turtles. Guess where we found the sentiment…….in the Special Someone Stamp Set!  We stamped it in Pretty Peacock Ink on the white stripe, and our card was complete. I just hope the Birds & Branches bird forgives me.

The Last A Lifetime Bundle was designed for making wedding cards. You can see the complete stamp set and dies in my Product List below. They can be ordered separately, but the bundle gives you a 10% savings. Keep scrolling to see how I made today’s card.

Last A Lifetime

Instructions

Cut Sahara Sand Cardstock, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, and fold at 4 1/4″ to make your card base.

Cut a layer of Subtles 6X6 Designer Paper in Soft Sea Foam, 3 3/4″ X 5″.

Stamp the sentiment, “May the memories of today last a lifetime,” in Sahara Sand Ink on the Soft Sea Foam Layer. I used the Stamparatus for placement and ink coverage.

Use the Lasting Elegance Die corner die, and matching edge die, to cut from Whisper White Cardstock. When cutting, have the edge die touching the corner die, and cut at the same time.

Using your Stampin’ Trimmer, trim the border to fit the Soft Sea Foam layer, and use tiny, tiny, tiny dots of glue to attach.

I love this Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon, which was my Host Code gift in June. Remember me telling you how you can make it any color you wish? After snipping the length I wanted for the long tails, I simply colored it with a Dark Soft Sea Foam Stampin’ Blend. Because these are alcohol markers, it dries quickly, and doesn’t rub off.

The ribbon is held securely by a dot of Tombow Glue beneath the knot.

For extra embellishment, I added five little pearls.

I was inspired by the Paper Players.
