Quilted Christmas for CAS(E) this sketch 244

The Christmas Quilt Bundle is the first one in the catalog (p. 4-5), and was at the top of my Holiday pre-order list. I’ve used the star shape on a number of cards, and it’s so much fun changing the color and pattern. If you scroll to the bottom of this post, you’ll see more examples. Then, click on them to go to the close-up details.

The inspiration for this design was from the CAS(E) this sketch #244 challenge.

I’m a member of a group called the Pals, and the leader (Mary Fish) comes up with a weekly challenge. This week we were shown a photograph. I tried to picture it here, unsuccessfully. You’ll have to take my word for it; it was very inspiring.  I would use Real Red, Whisper White, and a piece of the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper.

I first die cut the angled square and glued it to the Real Red cardstock. Before gluing this to the card base, I die cut the second square with the star. Then, I flipped the diamond shaped star pieces, and glued in place.

For the white edges, I die cut the star shape once again, and embossed it with the Wood Grain embossing folder. I glued these in place, and you can see, I have the star pieces that I can use on another project.

The sentiment “peace” comes in the Christmas Quilt Bundle, but rather than stamping it, I die cut the word with a Christmas Greetings Thinlits Die. I liked how it was angled in the sketch, so I went with it.

Thank you CAS(E) this sketch designers and Mary “the bandit” for the inspiration!

Stampin’ Blends with Whole Lot of Lovely

What do you get when you combine a Whole Lot of Lovely DSP with a Lovely Words die?

This:

The Lovely Words die comes with “hug” in a circle, so all I had to do was select the sheet of Designer Series Paper and run my 3 3/4″ X 5″ piece through the Big Shot.  The idea for the circle and positioning came from this week’s Freshly Made Sketch:

I layered the die-cut DSP on a 4″ X 5 1/4″ piece of Pool Party cardstock, and this on a Basic Black 4 1/4″ X 5 1/2″ card base.

I loved the vibrant colors contrasted with black, and couldn’t wait to complete the sketch. I thought about fussy cutting a flower from the DSP to pop up on my card. But, my new Stampin’ Blends were begging to be used, and the Color Me Happy stamp set had a flower that would definitely work.

It didn’t take much experimentation to see that Light Pumpkin Pie and Light Calypso Coral would give me the desired blend. I stamped the flower on Glimmer Paper with Pumpkin Pie Ink, colored it in, and added dots in the center with the Basic Black Marker.

I was thrilled with my flower, and just needed to add a bit of greenery. The fern (Botanical Builder) die cut from Pear Pizazz, and the leaf (Eclectic Layers) die cut from Always Artichoke.

Thank you for visiting my blog. Please leave a comment, and color me happy!

Musical Wreath Christmas Card

I just discovered a new (to me) challenge, and I was ready for some inspiration, so this happened:

By Su Mohr for Fusion Card Challenge; Featuring: Wonderful Wreath, Musical Instruments, Merry Music, Pinewood Planks, Classic Label Punch, Banner Triple Punch, Birds and Blooms, Lovely Laurel; For more details click on visit to go to my blog; #christmaswreath #musicalinstruments #trebleclef #merrymusic #birdsandblooms

Musical Wreath Christmas Card

Here is the challenge:

The challenge was titled, “Striped Wreath, ” and I came up with music score from the Merry Music Designer Series Paper. I used the Wonderful Wreath dies for cutting, and added a second layer of Cherry Cobbler cardstock beneath it. This added durability to the wreath when placed on dimensionals, as well as color for the berries made with a hand held hole punch.

The leaves were cut with a Lovely Laurel die from the Be Merry Designer Series Paper, the same pattern used for the 1″ banner that was punched with the Triple Punch.

The little, Cherry Cobbler, bird represents the small circle in the sketch, and matches the card base. The card base is layered with Whisper White cardstock embossed with the Pinewood Planks embossing folder. I love the texture that embossing adds.

“Jingle Bells” was punched right from the same paper as the music score with the Classic Label Punch. And, I doubled it with cardstock before gluing it to the wreath.

I happened to have an unused treble clef from yesterday’s post, titled Merry Musical season, because I decided to use Old Olive instead of Gold Foil. So, this treble clef became the wreath hanger. What a delightful surprise!

And, this next surprise made me laugh. If you look closely at the bird, he has a very cute, and unintentional eyeball! Some things are just meant to be!

Thank you, Fusion designers, for the inspiration. I’m glad I found you!

Welcome to the October Highlights

This month’s theme is “life changing events.” This came at a perfect time for me to share the wedding and bridal shower invitations I made for my daughter.

My daughter is on her honeymoon now, but it seems like yesterday we were in the beginning stages of her wedding plans. My first assignment was to design a wedding invitation, and it didn’t take too long for us to agree on a favorite. I wanted to use a gate fold design with a daisy on the front, and keep it simple for the quantity I would be making.

Night Of Navy was chosen for the center of the daisy, because her wedding colors would be white and navy. She had even decided on Anemones with the navy center, but they were out of season for her October wedding. The hydrangeas that replaced them were gorgeous!

I embossed the entire card, front and back, with an embossing folder that made the Thick Whisper White card feel good in your hands. Sometimes you just have to use those retired items.

I stamped two flowers (Daisy Delight stamp set) for each card in Sahara Sand ink on regular Whisper White cardstock. The Daisy Punch was given a work-out punching all of those petals. These were adhered with dimensionals to a square of Thick Whisper White cardstock that was cut with a square Stitched Shape die. It was important to have the weight here, so the card would close nicely. I intentionally opened it for the photograph.

Here they are in the processing and drying phase.

Once the words and font were selected for the invitation, we had them printed in navy ink, and I used my Stampin’ Trimmer to cut the 5 1/4 X 4 interiors. The last step was to insert tissue, place them in envelopes, apply address labels, and postage stamps. I was so happy there was a new “love” stamp picturing a bridal bouquet.

Four weeks prior to the wedding was a bridal shower, so there was another card making opportunity.

Keeping with the color theme, I used a Night of Navy card base, layered with Whisper White. I used the Falling Petals embossing folder, because we all know they look like hearts Right?

The Weather Together stamp set with its Umbrella Weather framelits made a wonderful shower card. The “Bride to-be” sentiment is from the Custom Tee stamp set, which came in very handy.

The same procedure was used for the inside as the wedding card, but no tissue, and not nearly the quantity.

Oct. 8th, 2017 was the big day when my daughter became a Mrs., no longer with the last name of Mohr. This is definitely a life changing event, and a very happy one. I waited to share the cards until after the event, thinking she would prefer it that way. I hope you enjoyed seeing them.

Merry Musical Season

Here comes the Little Drummer Boy! I thought my project was complete without him, but he marched on there right before I snapped the photos. He has a stamp and die in the Musical Season Bundle, which I had on my work table for the Treble Clef, so I couldn’t stop him. I decided he could stay as long as he was happy being a Basic Black silhouette.

I began this project by stamping the Christmas tree from the Lovely As A Tree stamp set in Old Olive on Merry Music DSP. I framed this in Basic Black cardstock, matching the card base.

I wanted to use the color scheme from this week’s Global Design Project challenge, so chose a piece of Old Olive from the Delightful Daisy Designer Series Paper.

I had the Basic Black and Old Olive covered, so I needed Gold. I first cut the Treble Clef from Gold Foil, but I preferred the subtle effect of it in Old Olive. The sentiment would be my gold, and I die cut “merry” from Gold Glimmer Paper, backing it with Basic Black so it would stand out.

There’s no question, this is a holiday card. I really like the sophistication of this color combo. I added dimensionals for extra pizazz.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I’ll be posting again this afternoon in Kylie’s Bertucci’s International Highlights. Please come back to see the wedding and shower invitations I made for my daughter.

Spooky Halloween Card

Laurie, a Paper Players designer chose this week’s theme, “Spooky.”

But, before I show you my super, scary card, I want to thank Leanne for selecting my card in last week’s color challenge. She made my canary friend very happy. If you’d like details, just click on the canary.

Now, are you ready to see my scary card? There I go, using those large letters again. I thought it would make an extra scary impact because of the size.

I die cut the letters from the spider web DSP, and triple layered them with Smoky Slate cardstock to match the card base. This Stampin’ Up paper is retired. I have some to spare, so if you don’t have a demonstrator, contact me, and I’d be happy to send you some.

I chose a brick wall as a home for the spider web, layered with a hint of orange for Halloween. I don’t normally think of sequins as scary, but they turned into ghosts, right before my “eyes!”

Thanks for visiting my blog! Enjoy your day!
