For the Newlyweds

I’ve been wanting to use the flower from the Support Ribbon Framelits set, and this would be the day! I could see this stylized flower  in white on white. Yes, this would be another wedding card. My daughter’s wedding is just one month from now!

As I was thinking about this flower, I also wanted to apply it to two challenges. Leigh’s sketch was so pretty at CAS(E) this sketch, and this flower would work in her design.

For the Tic Tac Toe challenge, I would choose the middle row across: dimension, embellishment, framelit die-cut.

I began with a card base of Thick Whisper White, and layered it with Smokey Slate striped Designer Series Paper. The top layer would be more Thick Whisper White, and I cut (framelit die-cut) five flowers and four leaves from the same cardstock. I decided on the placement of the flowers; a partial flower in the corner, and two full flowers along with their leaves.

I put dimensionals on the bottom of the two flowers, and bent the top layer of the flowers before gluing them together. This added dimension for the Tic Tac Toe challenge.

White Perfect Accents fit perfectly in their centers for embellishment. And, for more embellishment I put a strip of Gingham Ribbon below the flowers.

I stamped “For the Newlyweds” from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set in Basic Black, and punched it out with the Classic Label Punch. This was placed on dimensionals, and my final layer was complete.

Rudolf the Reindeer Silhouette

You’ll never guess what I saw last night! There was a reindeer in our yard, and not just any reindeer. Shhhh, I think it was Rudolf! I could tell by the way his nose was glowing. It was after the sun went down, so I just caught a glimpse of him silhouetted against the night sky. He must have been doing a practice run in preparation for December 24th.

I wanted to get it down on paper,  so I wouldn’t forget what I saw. The deer looked just like the die in the Santa’s Sleigh Thinlits set. And, I’d remember the Cherry Cobbler glow from his nose by using the Layering Circles die to surround him. The Garden Green, Be Merry DSP would remind me of the starry sky. I would use the Ticket Tear Border Punch on the strip of black print, Merry Music DSP, to tie the whole experience together.

My memory looked surprisingly nice, and if I added a sentiment, it could be a Christmas card. I found “Joy To The World” (because Rudolf flies around the world) in the Hearts Come Home stamp set.

Since my sighting had taken me this far,  I thought I may as well enter it in a couple challenges. It seemed to fit two perfectly.

I appreciate you stopping by my blog. We’ll just keep this a secret, okay? I don’t think Santa wants the children to know that Rudolf has to practice.

A Happy Birthday Card For Him

Sometimes I like to let the outstanding Designer Series Paper do all the work. This paper is from Wood Textures, and the sawn trees are so interesting, Stampin” Up! even made a background stamp like this, named Tree Rings.

The theme at Global Design Project this week is “for him.” No one could deny this card speaks to a man. Could they?

All I needed to do was add “Happy Birthday” using the Thinlits Die. I cut the words twice; once with Basic Black, and once with Very Vanilla for thickness and shadowing. I glued the words together, and glued the words to the DSP.

Before gluing the DSP to the Very Vanilla card base, I wound several strands of linen thread around the side and tied a bow. I know, bows aren’t generally thought of as masculine, but I think the Linen Thread makes it okay.

If you look closely, you’ll see I dotted the “i” in birthday with a metallic enamel star. And, I think that’s masculine too!

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I realize that feminine, flowery things are much more popular, but men love it when we try to please them with their preferences. Don’t they?

Labor Day Quilts for Three Occasions

The Quilt Builder Dies and United States postage stamps came together for three cards made with Labor Day in mind. However, they are for three very different occasions.

What is Labor Day, anyway? “Labor Day is celebrated to honor the American labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, laws and well-being of the country.” Thank you, Siri, for this information.

For the three similar card designs, I used a 3X3 inch square of 5 cent American flag stamps. The card bases are Night of Navy, Real Red and Crumb Cake, layered with Very Vanilla cardstock. All have colors of thread (Baker’s Twine or Linen Thread) for their Silver Foil needles that match their card bases.

This quilt patch has “Peace” for its sentiment, and will be for the Paper Player’s theme challenge, “back to school.”  From Kindergarten through my senior year in high school, every day began with the Pledge of Allegiance. The American flag is closely tied to my education, and world peace is what we all desire.

Many of us have no problem relating to this sentiment, “Do something creative every day.” A crafting friend would probably enjoy receiving this one. It really is more fun than housework!

This card is probably the best example of what Stampin’ Up! had in mind with the Christmas Quilt stamp set in the Holiday catalog. The sentiment, “Enjoy the Warmth of the Season,” is from the Hearts Come Home stamp set. I used the Quilt Top Textured folder for embossing.

Pictured are the dies I used. I must say, it was really fun winding the baker’s twine around the spools, and threading the needles. I almost felt like a seamstress.

I’m looking forward to making additional quilt patches using Designer Series Paper. Hmmm, what colors will I choose?

Birthday Delivery Girl With Balloons

This adorable, backward girl from the Birthday Delivery stamp set wanted to get in on some stamping action. I thought she would show up nicely stamped with Basic Black ink on Whisper White cardstock. She said she wanted to deliver balloons to her friend who was having a birthday, so I stamped a string for tying the balloons. She also told me her friend’s favorite colors were royal blue and lime green, so this was going to be perfect for the Less Is More Challenge.

I decided the base card would be Lemon Lime Twist, the name for Stampin’ Up’s lime green. For a little extra pizazz, I used a die from the Card Front Builder set, which is in the Holiday catalog, and I believe it’s good for year-round projects. I’ve used it on the bottom border as shown here, but it can border the top half, or the entire card as well.

I chose Pacific Point, Stampin’ Up’s royal blue, to stamp “HAPPY” and “BIRTHDAY” from the Thoughtful Banners stamp set. The “HAPPY” would become a balloon that I would cut with a die from the  Birthday Friends set.

I let the little girl choose the royal and lime balloon patterns from Designer Series Papers: Birthday Wishes and Fresh Florals. She did a good job, don’t you think?

The die for cropping the little girl is pictured, but I ended up not using it. She told  me “sometimes, less is more, and I agreed.”

Thanksgiving Pumpkin Card

Doesn’t everybody love pumpkins? They are my favorite for Fall decorating, and I especially like pumpkin pie. Costco has a huge one during the season, and it’s bargain priced! There is also a wonderful one that can be made of paper with a Patterned Pumpkin Thinlit Die. I knew I wanted to use this pumpkin on my project when I saw the colors and sketch of two challenges.

I die cut the pumpkin twice: once with Crumb Cake, matching the card base, and once with Tangerine Tango. Can you see how it’s like a jigsaw puzzle? Fun, fun, fun!

I decided on a Wood Texture background, and thought that a die in the Eclectic Layers set would make a good trellis. The only thing climbing on it right now are tiny Peek-a-Boo Peach dots. I had to somehow incorporate this color, and believe me, the struggle was real. I dulled the other colors for a rustic look by stamping them on Crumb Cake cardstock, and the peach was just too brilliant. I hope this tiny bit works.

I stamped “Thanks” in Tranquil Tide on my favorite little sign from the At Home set, and hung it from a nail at the top of the trellis. Afterall, it is a Thanksgiving card.

Now you will see the challenges, which supplied my inspiration:

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I wouldn’t be doing this, if it wasn’t for you!
