Gold Foil Snowflake Wings

The beautiful, Gold Foil Snowflakes were on the top of my pre-order list from the Holiday catalog. However, I hadn’t imagined a snowflake would turn into insect wings, until I saw this week’s CAS(E) this sketch. I studied the sketch for a bit before seeing that it was actually a circle, and two quarters of a circle would create my desired shape.

So, I cut the snowflake into quarters, and these wonderful wings were born. This would work perfectly for another reason. I also wanted to play in the Tic Tac Toe challenge, and the right row down was sequin-lace-GOLD.

I found a body for my wonderful, winged creature in the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set, and stamped it with Sahara Sand on Whisper White card stock.

This card could be for many occasions, but I was needing “thank you” cards, and the Thankful Thoughts stamp set provided the sentiment. While I had the Sahara Sand ink open, I found a pretty strip of lace in the Delicate Details (retired) stamp set, which I stamped below the sentiment.

I’m not sure if my insect really is a dragonfly, but I thought it would like to fly around foliage, and I embossed its home with the Layered Leaves embossing folder.

The first square of Tic Tac Toe was “sequin,”  and I scattered eight white and clear sequins around the leaves. You need to look closely to see them, but they add a nice sparkle in person.

I almost forgot, there is one more challenge in the Pal’s Gallery. The bandit is looking for projects using purple, so I chose Wisteria Wonder as the card base to satisfy that requirement. I probably would have gone with a shade of green, but I’m liking the purple!

Thank you all for the inspiration!

Postage Stamp Christmas Tree

This Christmas tree from the Santa’s Sleigh die set adorned many of my cards last year, but it has been reborn with postage stamps. They happen to be 13 cent United States Christmas stamps from 1976.

The design for my card was inspired by Global Design Project’s challenge.

I used Always Artichoke for the card base, layered with striped Designer Series Paper, and Whisper White, embossed with the Quilt Top Textured embossing folder.

I chose Linen Thread to tie around the bottom, before gluing it all together.

I’m having fun with postage stamps that have been stashed away in a box. Click on my postage stamp bird for more details:

U.S. Postage Stamp Art-Bird on a Branch

This project has some real history behind it, and it all started when the Less Is More Challenge stated, “something you would not reach for in your normal crafting session.” Not only does it consist of United States postage stamps from the 1930s, it documents my love for all things made of paper. And, the funny thing is, my two stamp collections are within arms reach.

Before becoming a card making maniac, I was a philatelist, and quite impressed with this name for myself when I was nine years old. That’s when my father realized I was eager to learn about a hobby he had been fascinated with for years. The two of us spent many hours marveling over our collections. I later became a “seller” on ebay during its early days, having fun selling my duplicates.

Isn’t it ironic that my favorite hobby remains “stamping?”

I decided this bird would like to show off some postage in red, pink and purple, and could perch happily on a branch wide enough to accommodate stamps in shades of green. After gluing the stamps on cardstock, I used dies from Birds and Blooms to cut them out.

I laughed when I found the perfect sentiment in the Designer Tee stamp set, “When in Doubt: STAMP.” I used a Stitched Shape square to make it look like a stamp, and placed it in the upper right corner.

The final touch was the perforated edge, provided by the Ticket Tear Border Punch. How about that!

I haven’t really changed that much. I just went from postage stamps to crafting stamps.

Thinking about all of this, postage stamps are required to mail our cards, so it’s all tying together beautifully. I may have found my niche!

Chapel of Love Wedding Card

Remember 1964? The Dixiecups singing “Going to the Chapel?” When I saw this pretty, little church in the Hometown Greetings die set, I thought it would make a great wedding card.

Gold and white are wonderful wedding card colors, so I die cut the church with the house and two trees from Gold Foil paper. When I saw the challenge at Paper Players was a sketch with an object on a hill, (that’s the way I saw it, anyway) I added some Gold Thread to make the slight hill more pronounced.

Prior to attaching the Gold Foil die-cut and Gold Thread, I embossed the Whisper White cardstock with the Fluttering Hearts embossing folder. It’s really called Falling Petals, but I renamed it. Doesn’t it look like hearts? I found “wedding wishes” in the Floral Phrases stamp set, just the right size to fit in my die cut heart. The inside sentiment, a favorite for wedding cards, was in Rose Wonder.

I hope the sketch designer doesn’t mind that my sentiment isn’t in the lower, right hand corner. It was breezy that day, and it flew to the top of the card.

I enjoyed making this card, but now I can’t get the song out of my head. Sorry if I inflicted you. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Chintzy the Cat and a Bird Say Thank You

Welcome to the Remarkable InkBig Blog Hop for August 2017. This month our theme is “Thank You.” You may be starting the blog hop here, Aromas and Art– Su Mohr, or you may have come from another person in the list. The full line-up below will help you stay on track, so you don’t miss any of the fabulous projects being shared today.

This cat’s name is Chintzy, not because she’s cheap, but because of the floral pattern decorating her fur. I had to create a chintz cat. I’ll explain why.

I come from a long line of collectors. My grandmother had a wonderful collection of antique demitasse cups and saucers that I admired as a child. She would let me “play” with them, and gave me her collection when she downsized. I added to it over the years, but cut myself off when my cabinet maxed out at 60. I also inherited a figurine collection, which included this black, meowing cat, one of my favorites. I wanted to combine these two porcelain items into a paper cat.

There was a perfect sheet of Delightful Daisy Designer Series Paper for punching the cat, which I backed with Thick Whisper White cardstock, because I knew she deserved to be on dimensionals. Everyone knows that cats like birds, so I used a Birds and Blooms die to cut a cute, white bird. This bird needed a branch, which I die cut from Seasonal Layers. I thought a window was a good idea to separate the two, and Hearth & Home Framelits dies provided the solution. So, Chintzy is inside the house, sitting on a table, in her pretty room with wallpaper from Delightful Daisy.

But, she is yearning to be outside on this sunny (Daffodil Delight) day playing with her bird friend. The excitement of it all is causing her to say, “You light up my life.” I’m sure this sentiment would be well received by humans. I know I’d like it, if someone said that to me. And, I’d especially appreciate the sentiment inside.

Isn’t the font pretty? It’s from the Thankful Thoughts stamp set. I added a daisy from the Daisy Delight stamp set, and the envelope flap is from Delightful Daisy DSP.

Thanks for taking part in our blog hop. Remember, you are currently at Aromas and Art-Su Mohr. Check the list below to see who is next. Happy Hopping!

Elephant Baby Blanket Welcome

I’ve always liked the combination of pink and grey, and this idea started formulating a couple months ago. What was I waiting for? I was waiting for a package in the mail from Mary Fish; a roll of Smoky Slate Gingham ribbon. Because I participate in her #bandit13 (submitting 13 cards a month), I’m eligible for the free monthly gift. She is not only generous, but a fabulous leader who loves her Pals, and the feeling is mutual.

I think you can see why I needed the gingham ribbon.

The card base is Powder Pink, layered with Smoky Slate and Whisper White. I used the smallest Stitched Shape square to die cut six Powder Pink squares, and six Thick Whisper White squares. You can see how they were alternated in a checkerboard pattern for the baby blanket.

Tear Tape was used to fasten the gingham ribbon. I tried a regular bow, but it overwhelmed the blanket, so I tied a knot, cut the ends like a banner, and stuck it down with a mini glue dot, or two.

The envelope flap was decorated with a piece of Powder Pink, Fresh Florals Designer Series Paper. Note to self: Do this more often.

Are you not in love with this elephant?! He’s from the A Little Wild stamp set, and his die comes with a hole in the top, ready to be used as a tag. I glued him to this card, but you can see his backside in the picture above. The bear and lion in this set are equally adorable. They are a bit jealous, but I explained to them that elephants are grey, and they are not.

The sentiment fits right inside the elephant, “a great big welcome for a sweet little someone.” And, here’s a close up view of the gingham ribbon. Thank you, Mary Fish, and Kris for getting everything organized and mailed. You are much appreciated!
