“Paper piecing” is a fun technique I used to create today’s sunflower card. First, I’ll explain the background; a card base of Crumb Cake, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″. To give it texture, I layered it with lattice, cut with an Organic Beauty Die from Crumb Cake Cardstock.

“Paper Pieced” Sunflower
The sky was made with a Blending Brush and Pacific Point Ink on Basic White Cardstock, 3″ X 4 1/2″.
Now for the “paper piecing” process: 1) Cut half of a sunflower from Thick Basic White Cardstock, using the Sunflowers Die, and glue it close to the edge of the sky. 2) Create the yellow with a Blending Brush and Crushed Curry Ink on Basic White Cardstock. 3) Cut half of a sunflower, using the same half as the white cut. When removing it from the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine, keep it intact. This will keep the petals in order. 4) Using your Take Your Pick Tool, match the yellow petals to the white frame, and glue in place. 5) Cut the center of the flower from Crumb Cake Cardstock.
To give the sunflower a perfectly straight edge, I used a Stitched Rectangles Die (2 1/2″ X 4″), cutting it to size.

“I’m thinking of you” is from the Art Gallery Stamp Set, heat embossed with White Powder on a piece of the “sky” paper, cut with the smallest Stitched Rectangles Die.
The sprig, also a Sunflowers Die, was cut from Basic White Cardstock, and glued in placed prior to attaching the sentiment with Dimensionals.
If you like doing jig saw puzzles, this technique is one you could grow to love. I’ve already made another, I’ll show you later this week.

I was inspired by TGIF.

As always, your cards are magnificent! I am so excited for you and your daughter. It’s a precious time! Is it your first grandchild?
Your card is beautiful with the paper piecing and lattice. A few years ago, SU had a beautiful rose die that was very pretty paper pieced. I enjoyed that, so I’m going to try this one. Thanks for the tips. How exciting to be expecting a granddaughter in just a couple of months.!! Enjoy your day!
Gorgeous card, Su. And congrats to all!
