Penguin Wishes

As soon as I saw the beautiful, Feels Like Frost DSP, I noticed the design with shades of Petal Pink and Highland Heather. I thought this would be a perfect winter scene for a penguin. Why not let the DSP do all the work?

My focal point is a penguin from the Playful Penguins Stamp Set. I stamped him in Gray Granite Ink on Whisper White Cardstock, and used Paper Snips to fussy cut. l also stamped his scarf in Cherry Cobbler Ink on white cardstock, and fussy cut.

The card base is Purple Posy, layered with Cherry Cobbler, matching the sentiment, “Merriest Wishes,” also from the Playful Penguins Stamp Set. I should have used Highland Heather for the card base, because of the challenge, but momentarily forgot what I was doing. Oops!

TIP: I usually fussy cut, leaving a border around the edge, as die cuts do. This is the way I cut the penguin. But, I cut along the lines of his scarf, thinking it would look better, and I like it.

The stamp set even has a little smudge, giving the penguin a place to stand. I placed him on Dimensionals, and my simple card was complete.

I’m also sharing Playful Penguins, in black and white, for my Paper Players Design Team entry today. Clicking on the card will take you to the details.

Playful Penguin for the Paper Players Color Challenge

What’s black and white and red all over? No it’s not a newspaper; it’s a penguin in a scarf!

Penguin Greeting

Thinking about the Paper Players “black and white” challenge, the penguins from the 2019 Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog would be a fun choice, so I was really glad my Holiday Catalog pre-order arrived in time. Cherry Cobbler would be my “one other color.”

In addition to using the Paper Player’s colors, I used the layout from this week’s Freshly Made Sketches.

I couldn’t wait to ink up an adorable penguin from the Playful Penguins Stamp Set. I stamped him in Memento Black Ink on Whisper White Cardstock, which I cut with a Stitched Shapes Square Die.

The same die was used to cut a second square, which I embossed with the Eyelet Lace Embossing Folder.

Next, I stamped his scarf in Cherry Cobbler Ink on Whisper White Cardstock, and fussy cut it for a perfect fit. The scarf matched his Cherry Cobbler card base, as well as the sentiment from the Merry Christmas To All Stamp Set.

I gave the Whisper White layer on the card base some texture with the Subtle Texture Embossing Folder.

A die from the Magnolia Memory Die Set made a nice snowdrift for my penguin. After stamping the sentiment, I brushed the top edge with Memento Black Ink, and raised it on Dimensionals.

To complete my card, I added a bow of Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon and three Epoxy Droplets.

I’m also sharing Playful Penguins, in a color challenge, for the Kre8tors August Blog Hop. Clicking on the card will take you to the details.

Easy Stencil Technique Dandelion Wishes

This stencil technique is so fun and easy, you have to give it a try!

By Su Mohr for Fusion; Click READ or VISIT to go to my blog for details! Featuring: Shimmer Laser-Cut DSP, Woven Threads Sequins, Well Written Dies, Sweet Silhouette Dies, stencil technique; #stenciltechnique #stenciling #sweetsilhouette #dandelions #wishes #cardsketches #stampinup #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #lasercutpaper

Dandelion Stenciling

First, I decided on three colors of ink that would blend together: Blushing Bride, Calypso Coral, and Flirty Flamingo. Then, I positioned a corner of the Shimmer Detailed Laser-Cut DSP on Whisper White Cardstock measuring 4″ X 5 1/4″. This was held in place by Post-It Notes, which also served as a barrier for the ink.

Using Sponge Daubers, I began daubing at the top with Blushing Bride, then Calypso Coral, ending with Flirty Flamingo, while overlapping a bit.

It’s exciting to lift the stencil, and see the beautiful pattern you created.

The largest flower in the pattern reminded me of a dandelion, so I used the die from Sweet Silhouettes to make a dandelion with Thick Whisper White Cardstock.  I added this dandelion, along with “wishes” from the Well Written Die Set. The word was flexible enough to fit the curve of the stem.

For a touch of sparkle, I dotted the “i” in “wishes” with a Woven Threads Sequin, and sprinkled a few more “dandelion seeds” around for good measure.

Incidentally, the Woven Threads Sequin Assortment also has blue tones, which I didn’t use for this project.

TIP: If you haven’t tried the Take Your Pick Tool for dealing with sequins, I highly recommend it. It’s pictured in my Product List below, where you can click on the picture for details and purchasing.

Today’s design was inspired by the Fusion Card Challenge sketch.

Have a wonderful day! See you next time!

Eclipse Technique “big” Thanks Card

Today’s project is a combination of two things that I am drawn to: the eclipse technique and Pressed Petals Designer Paper.

By Su Mohr for cts; Click READ or VISIT to go to my blog for details! Featuring: Hand-Lettered Prose Dies, Pressed Petals DSP, Well Said stamp set, Be Mine Stitched Dies, Merry Christmas Dies; #eclipsetechnique #handletteredprosedies #pressedpetals #cardtechniques #cardsketches #cardchallenges #thankyoucards #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #

“big” thanks

I began by placing the letters “b-i-g”  and the label die on the Pressed Petals DSP, and rolling it through the die cutting machine. The letters are from the Hand-Lettered Prose Die Set, and the label die is from the Merry Christmas Die Set.

For some reason, I enjoy layering die cuts. I have no patience for bows, but I love gluing pieces of paper together. I gave these die cuts five layers of Blueberry Bushel Cardstock for nice dimension.

Next, I backed the DSP with Crumb Cake Cardstock to give it body, and trimmed the edges with a scalloped die from the Be Mine Stitched Die Set. Then, I wrapped one side with Linen Thread, and glued it to a Crumb Cake Card base.

Once the DSP was attached to the card base, I glued the letters back in their holes, creating the “eclipse.”

The label die was stamped with “thanks”  (Well Said Stamp Set) prior to layering.

My design was inspired by this week’s CAS(E) this sketch.

Thank you for visiting. You can see my supplies in the Product List below. I hope you enjoy layering as much as I do!

Daisy Lane Thank You Card

Let me begin today by saying I was totally surprised by how much I like this color combination. And, my husband gave it a “thumbs up.”

By Su Mohr for GDP; Click READ or VISIT to go to my blog for details! Featuring: Daisy Lane Stamp Set, Medium Daisy Punch, Layering Ovals Dies, Frosted Bouquet Dies, Rectangle Stitched Dies, 6X6 In Color DSP; #Thank you cards #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #cardmaking #cardchallenges #colorcombinations #daisylane #mediumdaisypunch #freeasabird #frostedbouquet

Daisy Thank You

If it hadn’t been for the Global Design Project challenge, I would not have put these colors together

That’s what is so fun about challenges; it makes you try new things.

I began by stamping the daisy petals from the Daisy Lane Stamp Set in Merry Merlot Ink on Whisper White Cardstock. Then, I used the Medium Daisy Punch for cutting.

The daisy leaves are from the Frosted Bouquet Die Set, colored with Mossy Meadow Ink (Sponge Daubed) on Whisper White Cardstock.

The background was made with a die from the same Frosted Bouquet Die Set. The white on white makes it look like embossing, doesn’t it?

The card base is Pretty Peacock, topped with a layer of 6X6 In Color Designer Paper in a wonderful, script design.

I found the sentiment, “thank you” in the Free As A Bird Stamp Set. It is stamped in Pretty Peacock Ink on Whisper White Cardstock, cut with a Layering Ovals Die, backed with Pretty Peacock Cardstock. I like the way the “thank you” font matches the background script.

“Thank you” for stopping by today. I appreciate you shopping at my store!
