New Horizons for Global Design Project 323

This week’s Global Design Project is a “celebration” theme, so it was a perfect time to share my favorite suite in the new 2022 January-June Mini Catalog, New Horizons.

There’s nothing like the fresh start of a new year, with hope on the horizon!

Celebrate 2022

The watercolored, New Horizon Designer Paper, made this card come together quickly. There are 48 sheets, 6″ X 6″, 4 each of 12 double-sided designs, #157768 | $11.50.

I chose a gorgeous scene, cut it to 4″ X 5 1/4″, and glued it to a Thick Basic White card base.

Next, I used the fence dies, from the Horizon Die set, to cut Basic White Cardstock. Don’t you love the way this fence adds dimension? The die set has 10 dies, #157778 | $33.00.

I didn’t use the On The Horizon Stamp Set on this card, #157770 | $23.00, but you can order it with the dies in a bundle for a 10% savings, #157779 | $50.25.

After gluing the fence in place, I used Playful Alphabet Dies, the left-over strip of designer paper, and a Foam Adhesive Sheet to create the numbers “2022.”

The sentiment, “Let’s celebrate everything,” is from the Eden’s Garden Stamp Set. It was stamped in Memento Black Ink on Basic White Cardstock, cut with a Beautiful Trees Die, and glued in place.

This card fills me with joy, thinking of the good things to come! Order January 4th, 2020, and spread the joy for 2022.

Now, it’s your turn. Celebrate with us by posting your card in our gallery!

Soft Pastels Technique for Global Design Project 322

It’s Monday, and there’s a fun sketch challenge for you at Global Design Project. Check out what our designers did with the sketch, then play along.

I am “hooked” on coloring with Soft Pastels; my new favorite coloring tool. After watching Sara Douglass, our Stampin’ Up! CEO, on Facebook Live, I picked up a new technique.

By Su Mohr for GDP 322; Click aromasandart.com to go to my blog for details! Featuring: Eden's garden Stamp Set, Eden Dies, Soft Pastel Assortment; #eden'sgarden #edendies #versamark #softpastels #coloringtools #coloring #cardtechniques #distinktivestamps #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #cardmaking #papercrafting #cardsketches #gdp322 #sumohr #aromasandart.com/shop #stamping #stampinup

Soft Pastels and VersaMark

I began by stamping the image, from the Eden’s Garden Stamp Set, in VersaMark on Basic White Cardstock, 4″ X 5 1/4″.  Then, I used Sponge Daubers to pick up the powder from the Soft Pastels to blot on the VersaMark. I first tried rubbing the Sponge Dauber on the Soft Pastel, but it didn’t pick up enough color. Watching Sara, I saw how she  needed to rub the Pastel on scratch paper to get sufficient powder for coloring.

I used Daffodil Delight, Mango Melody, Granny Apple Green, and Coastal Cabana, in that order. This technique works well with “Distinktive” stamps. I’ll be looking for more stamp sets conducive to this technique.

The sketch gave me the idea to trim the right side of my white layer with the long Eden Die. Isn’t it pretty?

A smaller Eden Die was used to cut Thick Basic White Cardstock for the sentiment. This wonderful sentiment is from the Eden’s Garden Stamp Set; “My heart is tied to yours…tug if you need anything,” stamped in Memento Black Ink. Don’t you love it?

I snipped off the right side of the sentiment label to make it flush with the border, and attached it with Dimensionals. A few Artistry Bloom Sequins were added as a final touch.

Surprise for Global Design Project 321

Welcome to Global Design Project #321, a color challenge of Garden Green, Mint Macaron, and Cherry Cobbler, with a surprise.

What makes today’s card a surprise? It’s the embossed gingham background! Aren’t you excited? I sure was, and it’s in the new 2022 January-June Mini Catalog, available January 4. It’s featured as part of the Sweet Talk Suite, but gingham will certainly go with anything. It’s #157627 | $7.50, so write that down.

By Su Mohr for GDP 321; Click aromasandart.com to go to my website for details! Featuring: Gingham Embossing Folder, Eden Dies, Painted Christmas Designer Paper, Ornate Thanks Stamp Set; #ginghamembossing #edendies #paintedchristmas #ornatethanks #thankyoucards ##gdp321 #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #cardmakiing #papercrafting #sneakpeeks #colorcombos #colorchallenges #sumohr #aromasandart.com/shop #stamping #stampinup #edensgarden

Gingham Thanks

Prior to embossing the background, I had fun turning Basic White Cardstock (5 1/4″ X 4 “) into a pretty shade of green with Mint Macaron Ink and a Blending Brush. I used a circular motion, starting at the side (off the cardstock on scratch paper) and working toward the middle. Then, I glued this to a Garden Green card base, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4”.

The middle of the card is Painted Christmas Designer Paper (5 1/4″ X 2 1/2″) cut on the top and bottom with the long, Eden Die. I glued it in the center, leaving the edges free to lift.

Next, I cut Thick Basic White Cardstock, with another Eden Die, and stamped the sentiment in Garden Green Ink. “Thanks” is from the Ornate Thanks Stamp Set, and was a perfect fit. I usually stamp the sentiment first, and then use the die for cutting, but it worked better in reverse with this solid die.

For a touch of red, I added a few Matte Decorative Dots in Cherry Cobbler. Don’t they look like berries?

Our designers are excited to show you their creations, then it’s your turn to add a card to our gallery.

Honeybee Home Bundle for Global Design Project 320

Welcome to Global Design Project, and this week we get to CASE Kayla McCreadie. I have a “thing” for bees on cards, and I couldn’t wait to give you a sneak peek of a new set coming in January.

The first thing I did was stamp the wonderful bees in Cinnamon Cider Ink on Basic White Cardstock, and use their Honeybee Blooms Dies for cutting. You’ll find more details on the new products below.

By Su Mohr for GDP 320; Click aromasandart.com to go to my website for details! Featuring: Honeybee Blooms Dies, Honeybee Home Stamp Set, Hive Embossing Folder, Tailor Made Tags, Heart & Home Designer Paper; #honeybeehome #heartandhome #honeybeeblooms #heart&home #hiveembossing #honeybees #beesoncards #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #cardmaking #papercrafting #sumohr #aromasandart.com/shop #tailormadetage #tags #stampinup #stamping #sneakpeek

Honeybee Family

Second, I made the bee’s hive with the new, Hive Embossing Folder, and Basic White Cardstock, 3 1/2″ X 4 3/4″. After rolling it through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine, I roughed up the edges with the blade of my Paper Snips.

Third, I used Dimensionals to attach the hive, on an angle, to Heart & Home Designer Paper, 4″ X 5 1/4″. The designer paper was glued to a Garden Green card base, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″.

Fourth, I cut the greenery from Garden Green cardstock, using two of the Honeybee Blooms Dies, and glued it in place.

Fifth, I stamped the sentiment in Cinnamon Cider Ink to match the bees. “so glad we’re family” is one of the great sentiments in the Honeybee Home Stamp Set. Then, I used a Tailor Made Tag Die for cutting, tied Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon through the hole, and attached it with Dimensionals.

Finally, I attached the bees, and my sneak peek was complete. If you’re a bee lover, you will like this set as much as I do.

Christmas Pinecones for Global Design Project 319

I’ve been working on building up my stash of Christmas cards, and was delighted to see this week’s theme at Global Design Project was Christmas. And, I love using the Christmas Pinecone Dies!

By Su Mohr for GDP; Click aromasandart.com to go to my website for details! Featuring: Christmas Pinecone Dies, Poinsettia Petals Stamp Set, Tasteful Textile Embossing Folder; #christmaspinecone #pinecones #christmascards #holidaycards #stenciling #stencilingoncards #cardtechniques #gdp319 #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #cardmaking #papercrafting #sumohr #aromasandart.com/shop #stamping #stampinup

Christmas Pinecones

I began by using a large Christmas Pinecone Die to cut from Basic White Cardstock, making a stencil. Then, I placed my stencil over Basic White Cardstock, 5 1/4″ X 4″, and applied Mossy Meadow Ink with a Sponge Dauber.

This layer was glued to a Mossy Meadow card base, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″.

How do you like the pinecones? I was trying different color combinations for realistic pinecones, when I remembered that Stampin’ Up! shows us, on page 16 of the July-December 2021 Mini Catalog. Use Crumb Cake for the solid piece, and Early Espresso for the detailed piece.

After cutting and gluing the pieces together, I glued the small pinecone flat, in the middle, and attached the two larger ones with Dimensionals.

“Merry Christmas” is from the Poinsettia Petals Stamp Set, stamped in Cherry Cobbler Ink on Basic White Cardstock, 3 1/4″ X 3/4″. After giving it texture with the Tasteful Textile Embossing Folder, I backed it with Regals 6X6 Designer Paper in a Cherry Cobbler plaid, 3 1/2″ X 1″. Then, I backed the label with cardstock for durability, and attached it with Dimensionals.

The bow is Mossy Meadow Braided Linen Trim, stretched apart, and attached with a Glue Dot.

As I was viewing this close-up, I realized that the pinecones look better from a distance. Some things are like that!

Now, it’s your turn to hang your Christmas card in our gallery.

JOY for Global Design Project 318

This week’s Global Design Project is a sketch challenge, giving me the opportunity to continue making Christmas cards, using beautiful designer papers.

Check out the sketch below, see how our designers used the sketch, then hang your creation in our gallery.

By Su Mohr for GDP318; Click aromasandart.com to go to my website for instructions! Featuring: Painted Christmas Designer Paper, Heartwarming Hugs Designer Paper, Scalloped Contours Dies, Playful Alphabet Dies, Merry Melody EmbossingFolder, Playful Pets Trim; #paintedchristmas #heartwarminghugs #scallopedcontours #playfulalphabet #alphabetdies #merrymelody #musiconcards #christmascards #joytotheworld #christmascarols #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #cardmaking #papercrafting #sumohr #aromasandart.com/shop #stamping #stampinup #gdp318

JOY

I began with a Soft Sea Foam card base, 8 1/2″ X 51/2″, folded at 4 1/4″, embossing the card front with the Merry Melody Embossing Folder.

Next, I used a Scalloped Contours Die, 4 1/2″ X 3″, to cut two pieces of designer paper. The top pattern is Painted Christmas, and the bottom is Heartwarming Hugs. I glued these on an angle to match the sketch.

It was exciting to learn that the musical notes on the Merry Melody Embossing Folder were “Joy to the World,” one of my favorite Christmas carols. So, the word “JOY” would make the perfect sentiment. Right?

I used the smallest Scalloped Contours die to cut Soft Sea Foam Cardstock, where I would place my word “JOY.”

The letters were created with Playful Alphabet Dies, Foam Adhesive Sheets, and Heartwarming Hugs Designer Paper.  I cut a 2″ X 1″ piece of Foam Adhesive Sheet, removed the covering on one side, and stuck 2″ X 1″ designer paper to it. Then, I placed the letters on top of the designer paper, and ran it through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine with a normal “sandwich.” I ran it through a second time, upside down, to insure it was a good cut. After carefully removing the letters from the dies, I peeled the backside, and stuck them to the scalloped label.

Finally, I attached the label with Dimensionals, and added a pretty bow with a Glue Dot. The ribbon is part of the Playful Pets Trim Combo Pack.
