I used the Pretty Birds Bundle on Friday’s card, and I can’t stop using it!
Growing up during the 50s and 60s, it seemed that everyone had pet parakeets. This Pretty Birds Bundle brings back memories of the parakeet who kept me company in my bedroom. The Birdhouse Die Set has a wonderful cage that I cut from Thick Basic White Cardstock.

Parakeets in a Cage
My sweet mother would often take over my responsibility of cleaning the cage, which was lined with newspaper. That’s the reason I layered my Thick Basic White card base (8 1/2 “X 5 1/2”, folded at 4 1/4) with Vellum Layering Designs in a newsprint design.
I used the largest Deckled Rectangles Die for cutting, a wonderful new set that gives a “rough” edge to the layers. Then, I used the third largest Deckled Rectangles Die for cutting the top layer from Hues Of Happiness Designer Paper.

The Pretty Birds Stamp Set uses the fun technique,”two-step” stamping, to color the birds.
First, I stamped the outline of the birds in Memento Black Ink on Basic White Cardstock. Second, I stamped the solid, colored portion of the birds in Parakeet Party. How could I choose any other color?
I highly recommend using a Stamparatus, because it makes lining up the images much easier.

Before gluing the cage to the background, I stamped the sentiment in Memento Black Ink. “A card to say hello” is from the Sending Smiles Stamp Set, which fit the space perfectly.
I used a Birdhouse Die to cut the birds, and after attaching them with Dimensionals, I noticed a bow die. It is so cute, I HAD to use it! So fun in tiny dots from Pattern Party DSP, but this bow would be cute in any paper!

The Pretty Birds Bundle is in my “top 10,” and today’s card is great news for those who don’t enjoy coloring. I simply stamped the birds in black ink, and the color is provided by the flowers and leaves.
The background for the birds was created with a trellis die, one of the Organic Beauty Dies, cut from Thick Basic White Cardstock. After cutting the trellis, I glued it to the front of a Thick Basic White card base, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″.

Pretty Birds in black & white
The birds have nice detail, and stamp beautifully in Memento Black Ink on Basic White Cardstock. After stamping, I used their Birdhouse Dies for cutting.

The flowers and leaves were cut with Blossoming Happiness Dies from Hues of Happiness Designer Paper. We love it when Stampin’ Up! gives us dies to cut images from designer paper, don’t we?
I glued the leaves to the flowers, and attached them with Dimensionals, along with the birds.

The bird holding the sentiment thinks he’s pretty special.”What’s new?” is one of the Charming Sentiments, stamped in Gorgeous Grape Ink, and cut with a Sentiment Silhouettes Die.
If you like birds, you’ll need to add this bundle to your collection. I already have an idea for a design I’ll be posting on Sunday, showing “two-step” stamping.

I was inspired by Freshly Made Sketches.

Today’s card is featuring Horizons Dies, from the January-June 2022 Mini Catalog, with the new 2022-2024 In Colors. This set has cute, little houses, for a card challenge. How fun!
I began with a Thick Basic White card base, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″. Then, I used the largest Deckled Rectangles Die to cut from Starry Sky Cardstock, and topped this with Basic White Cardstock, cut with the second largest Deckled Rectangles Die.

Across the miles
Next, I used five Horizon Dies to cut mountains, water, trees, and houses from different patterns of 2022-2024 In Color 6X6 Designer Paper.
The mountains are Orchid Oasis with an overlay of Orchid Oasis Cardstock, the lake is Tahitian Tide, the trees are Parakeet Party, and the houses are Starry Sky. I layered the die-cuts for thickness, before gluing them to the card front.

“Smiles across the miles” is from the Sending Smiles Stamp Set, stamped in Stazon Black Ink on Thick Basic White Cardstock. I used its Sending Die for cutting, glued it to the houses, and attached both with Mini Dimensionals.

Now you see my inspiration; the Paper Players.

Today’s card is a combination of Sun Prints Designer Paper, Deckled Dies, Charming Sentiments, Fern embossing, and Iridescent Rhinestones.
The card base is Starry Sky, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″, topped with Basic White Cardstock cut with the largest Deckled Rectangles Die. Then, I used the second largest Deckled Die to cut the 3/4″ X 4 3/4″ strip of Sun Prints DSP, narrowing it with a second cut. These were glued flat to the card base.

Sun Prints “faith over fear”
Next, I used the 2 1/2″ X 4″ Deckled Die to cut a beautifully patterned section of Sun Prints DSP. After adding a layer of cardstock for thickness, I attached it with Dimensionals.

The 1 3/4″ X 3 1/8″ Deckled Die was used to cut Thick Basic White Cardstock. Prior to attaching it with Dimensionals (on the left side), I embossed it with the Fern Embossing Folder.

“Faith over fear” is one of the many wonderful, Charming Sentiments. I stamped it in Night Of Navy Ink, cut with its Sentiment Silhouettes Die, and attached it with Dimensionals.
For some sparkle, I added three Iridescent Rhinestones. They look so pretty with the shades of blue, don’t you think?

I was inspired by TGIF.

May 16, 2022 | Gallery, Global Design Project, Hand-Crafted Cards |
This week’s Global Design Project is a fun theme challenge! Beautiful Bugs! It was the perfect opportunity for my favorite ladybug to pay me a visit.

This ladybug is so cute, and easy to make. First, I used the Ladybug Builder Punch to cut her head and body from Basic Black Cardstock. Then, I stamped her wings in Sweet Sorbet Ink on Basic White Cardstock, and used the same punch for cutting. The wings were attached with a tiny bit of glue at the neck, and a Mini Dimensional under each wing.

“You can bug me anytime”
The ladybug was ready to munch on green leaves, so I stamped three leaves from the Hello Ladybug Stamp Set in Parakeet Party Ink on Basic White Cardstock. After stamping the leaves, I used Paper Snips for fussy cutting (cutting by hand).

To add to the ladybug’s feast, I used the Medium Daisy Punch to cut six rounds of petals from Basic White Cardstock. Then, I used Mini Dimensionals to attach the rounds of petals, making three flowers. Don’t you love the centers? They were made with a wonderful, Poppy Moments Die from Daffodil Delight Cardstock.
The background is Basic White Cardstock, cut with the second largest Stitched Rectangles Die. I attached this layer, with Dimensionals, to a Thick Basic White card base, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″.

Prior to attaching the layer, I threaded Gingham Ribbon through the sentiment label (created with a Waves Die), and secured the ends with Glue Dots on the back.
“You can bug me anytime” is from the Hello Ladybug Stamp Set, stamped in Stazon Black Ink.

Have you tried to design a card by using a card challenge? Take a look at the Fusion challenge, and I think you’ll see how today’s card developed.

I first thought of the trim I needed, to look like movie film. Using a Blossoming Happiness Die, I cut two strips from Basic Black Cardstock, 4 3/4″ X 1/8″.

“movie film” of flowers
Next, I wanted to find something red to represent the sofa color, and decided to use flowers from Hues Of Happiness Designer Paper. The Stylish Shapes Die Set has a 1″ square I used to cut four squares. I also fussy cut two small portions of flowers to glue above, as you can see.
For the top portion of the card , I cut a piece of Perfectly Penciled Designer Paper, 4 3/4″ X 2 1/4″. To make things as even as possible, I glued this first to Basic White Cardstock, 4 3/4″ X 4″. Next, I glued a black strip, followed by the four squares, and finally, the second black strip.
I had to do some maneuvering with the measurements, so the Basic Black card base is 8 1/2 ” X 5″ (rather than 5 1/2″), folded at 4 1/4″.

The sentiment is from the Charming Sentiments Stamp Set. I stamped “just for you” in Memento Black Ink on Thick Basic White Cardstock, used its Sentiment Silhouettes Die for cutting, and attached it with Mini Dimensionals.
I hope you’ve seen how fun it can be to use challenges for inspiration.
