Partridge In A Pear Tree

I’ve been waiting to use this fabulous partridge, until I was inspired by a sketch. Today was the day. If you need a perfect card to send to your true love on the first day of Christmas, this is it!

By Su Mohr for cts; Click READ or VISIT to go to my blog for details! …a partridge…

Yes, I had to begin with a Pear Pizzazz card base, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″. I layered this with Whisper White Cardstock, 4″ X 5 1/4″, that I embossed with one of the Greenery Embossing Folders.

Next, I stamped the pear, from the Arrange A Wreath Stamp Set, in Pear Pizzazz Ink on Whisper White Cardstock, 4″ X 2 1/4″. After stamping the rows of pears, I added detail to the top and bottom with an Ornate Borders Die. These long narrow dies can bend when rolling through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine, but they can be gently bent flat again.

The additional branch was cut from Thick Whisper White Cardstock with a Forever Flourishing Die. I glued the branch across the pears, so the partridge would have more foliage. You can see the die in the first photo.

Now for the partridge from the Arrange A Wreath Stamp Set. I used the “ink to stamp” technique with the Stamparatus, coloring the partridge stamp with Stampin’ Writes in Real Red, Crumb Cake, and Soft Suede, then pressing onto Whisper White Cardstock. Afterwards, the partridge die from the Wreath Builder Die Set, was used for cutting. You can see the Arrange A Wreath Bundle in my Product List below, which includes the stamps and dies, for a 10% savings.

The partridge is resting on the sentiment from the Itty Bitty Christmas Stamp Set. I stamped it in Crumb Cake Ink and used the smallest Stitched Rectangles Die for cutting. After gluing the bottom of the bird to the rectangle, I attached them with Dimensionals.

My inspirational sketch was from CAS(E) this sketch.

A “Very Merry” Square Christmas Card

It’s time to make a square card, don’t you think? And, I’m in Christmas card mode, so here we go!

By Su Mohr for FMS; Click READ or VISIT to go to my blog for details! Featuring: In Good Taste Designer Paper, Pine Woods Dies, Linen Thread, Ornate Frames Dies, Itty Bitty Christmas Stamp Set, Foam Adhesive Sheets; #christmascards #holidaycards #holiday2020 #woodtexture #christmastrees #treesoncards #pinetrees #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #cardmaking #papercrafting #squarecards

Very Merry Square Card

I began by cutting Gray Granite Cardstock at 4 1/4″ on the 11″ side of the 8 1/2″ X 11″ paper. Then, folded in half, which is 4 1/4″, making my square card base.

Gray Granite Cardstock blends beautifully with the wood texture, In Good Taste Designer Paper. This paper is fabulous, and the really good news is that it is one of the papers on sale for the month of October. The regular price is $21.00, more than the others, because you get 24 sheets, 12″ X 12″. But, this month, it can be yours for $17.85.

You can see the entire selection of papers below, and clicking on the pictures takes you to my store for purchasing.

Next, I cut two pieces of the wood texture paper: 1 1/4″ X 4″ and 2 1/2″ X 4″. I layered these on Real Red Cardstock 1/8″ larger, to give a 1/16th” border. I wrapped the right side in LinenThread, and glued the layers to the card base, leaving a separation between them.

The tree was made with a Pine Woods Die, Shaded Spruce Cardstock, and a Foam Adhesive Sheet, cut to 2 1/4″ X 3 1/4″. I really like Foam Adhesive Sheets, and the results. BUT, it was difficult removing all the tiny, sticky, pieces between the branches, and I won’t attempt it again with this tree.

The sentiment, “very merry,” is from the Itty Bitty Christmas Stamp Set, stamped in Early Espresso Ink on Gray Granite Cardstock. I used an Ornate Frames Die for cutting, attached it with Dimensionals, and my square, “very merry,” card was complete.

I was inspired by Freshly Made Sketches.

And, be sure to check out the Designer Paper SALE that begins today!!!! Details are below.

Today’s design was a complete surprise! I only knew the colors I wanted to use, and that it would be a birthday card.

By Su Mohr for Seize the B'day; Click READ or VISIT to go to my blog for details! Featuring: Sunflower Dies, Ornate Style Stamp Set, Ornate Layers Dies, Someone Special Stamp Set; #birthdaycards #sunflowers #sunflowersoncards #flowers #ornatestyle #colorcombos #cardtechniques #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #papercrafting #cardmaking #cardchallenges

Birthday Sunflower

For my colors, I found a stamp in the Ornate Style Stamp Set, which I stamped in Highland Heather, Magenta Madness, Bermuda Bay, and Granny Apple Green. The stamping was done on Whisper White Cardstock, 4 1/4″ X 5 1/2″.

Perhaps it was the size that made me think of the Sunflower Die. So, I ran it through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine, and it was prettier than I imagined.

Next, I used an Ornate Layers Die to give my sunflower a nice border, and layered it on a Thick Whisper White card base, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″.

I glued the sunflower back in its “hole,” minus all the little petals, replacing only the center on a Dimensional.

The last step was scary. After trying numerous sentiments and die-cuts, I saw it was best stamped right on the card front. So, holding my breath, I carefully stamped, “a very special day,” (Special Someone Stamp Set) in Gorgeous Grape Ink. Whew!

I was inspired by the splash of colors, and theme, at Seize the Birthday.

Layer To Your Heartwarming Hugs Content

If you’re wondering about the title of today’s post, “Heartwarming Hugs” is the name of the designer paper I used for this multilayered Christmas card.

By Su Mohr for PP; Click READ or VISIT to go to my blog for details! Featuring: Heartwarming Hugs Designer Paper, Evergreen Forest embossing, In The Pines Stamp Set; #christmascards #holidaycards #holiday2020 #inthepines #christmastrees #treesoncards #pinetrees #cardsketches #handmadecards #handcrafted #cardmaking #diy #papercrafting

Layered Pines

I was inspired by the Paper Players.

The sketch is fascinating, isn’t it? Once I figured out the size of the pieces, it was put together in no time! My Paper Trimmer came in handy for measuring and cutting the pieces of Whisper White Cardstock I used as a model.

I made a few changes as I went along, and I ‘ll give you the measurements I used. The Mossy Meadow card base is 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″, and topped with gingham, 5 1/4″ X 4″.

The Whisper White Cardstock is 4 1/2″ X 3″, and embossed with the Evergreen Forest Embossing Folder.

The horizontal print, glued on top of the embossed trees, is 5″ X 1″.

The tiny dotted, vertical piece, is 1 1/2″ X 3 3/4″. I gave it a perfect flagged bottom with the Banner Triple Punch. Then, I glued the red stripe, 5″ X 1/4″, across the horizontal print. It’s probably better to glue this before adding the flagged piece, but I wasn’t thinking clearly.

Next, I stamped the trees from the In The Pines Stamp Set in Mossy Meadow Ink on Whisper White Cardstock, 2 1/4″ X 2 1/4″.  And,  I followed this by stamping Pear Pizzazz Ink on top of the trees for color. If you look at the stamp set in my Product List below, you’ll see the outline stamp at the top, and the one that colors the trees beneath it. It makes for “quick & easy”coloring.

The final layer was the sentiment, stamped in Real Red Ink on Whisper White Cardstock, 2″ X 1/4″. I attached it with Mini-Dimensionals, and my card was complete.

Evergreen Forest for GDP 260

What a nice surprise, that my card from June, is this week’s “CASE the Designer” at Global Design Project.

Today’s card began with the same Thick Whisper White card base, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, folded at 4 1/4″, layered with Whisper White Cardstock, that I embossed with the Subtle Textured Embossing Folder, 4″ X 5 1/4″.

By Su Mohr for #GDP260; Click READ or VISIT to go to my blog for details! Featuring: Square Vellum Doilies, Evergreen Forest embossing, Subtle Textured embossing, Stitched So Sweetly Dies; #christmascards #evergreenforest #spongedaubers #winkofstella ##stitchedsosweetly #holidaycards #quickandeasy #cleanandsimple #trees #treesoncards #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #cardmaking #papercrafting

Christmas Forest

And, I used the same Stitched So Sweetly Die (largest) to cut the rectangle with the scalloped edge.

This time, I ran the scalloped rectangle through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine with the Evergreen Forest Embossing Folder. To add color to the trees, I used Seaside Spray Ink and a Sponge Dauber. A happy accident occurred, because I ended up with multi colored trees. The Sponge Dauber, I thought was clean, retained green from a prior use, so my forest looked beautiful without additional coloring. YAY!

Rather than using sequins, I dotted the trees with Wink Of Stella. This is a fun and easy way to add some sparkle, although, it’s difficult to photograph. You’ll have to take my word for it.

Next, I layered the forest for thickness, and raised it on Dimensionals, making use of some left-over Dimensional edges.

Before attaching my forest, I glued a Square Vellum Doily in the left-hand corner for some extra pizzazz.

The sentiment, “Blessed Christmas Wishes,” is from the Itty Bitty Christmas Stamp Set, stamped in Mint Macaron Ink, and cut with the smallest Stitched Rectangles Die. I placed a tiny piece of a Foam Adhesive Sheet under the end of “wishes” for added stability.

It was fun “casing” myself, and I hope you were inspired. I’d love to see your cards hanging in the Global Design Project gallery. Clicking on my original card design at the top will take you there.

Queen Anne’s Lace Showing Techniques

Today I am featuring the Queen Anne’s Lace Stamp Set for several reasons. It has beautiful, dainty, flowers that work well with two card techniques; ink blending and heat embossing. Plus, it’s one of the FREE stamp sets included in your Starter Kit, when you join my Dream Makers team in September. Only a few days left in the month, so be sure to read the details below.

By Su Mohr for TGIF and Fab Fri; Click READ or VISIT to go to my blog for details! Featuring: Queen Anne's Lace Stamp Set, Ornate Layers Dies, Subtle Textured embossing; #thankyoucards #queenanneslace #flowers #flowersoncards #cardtechniques #inkblending #heatembossing #colorcombos #handmadecards #handcrafted #diy #cardmaking #papercrafting #stampinup #ornatelayers

Ink Blending

I began with a Gray Granite card base, 8 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, layered with Misty Moonlight Cardstock, 4″ X 5 1/2″. Prior to gluing the Misty Moonlight layer to the card base, I embossed it with the Subtle Textured Embossing Folder.

Now for the fun techniques! Using two Sponge Daubers, I applied two blue ink colors to Whisper White Cardstock, 4″ X 5 1/4″. I used the lighter, Seaside Spray, first, and the darker Misty Moonlight, second. To prevent definite “Sponge Dauber dots,” I touched lightly, then used a circular motion.

When I was satisfied with my blue background, I used an Ornate Layers Die for cutting.

Next, I stamped the flowers in Gray Granite Ink. The stamp set has “two step” stamping, meaning you stamp a second stamp on top of the first stamp to add color. I stamped it in VersaMark, sprinkled it with White Embossing Powder, and set it with the Heat Tool. Aren’t the blossoms pretty?

For a pop of color, I stamped “thanks” in Bumblebee Ink.

I was inspired by two challenges. TGIF for “ink blending.”

And, Fab Friday for the colors.
